Anoying rattle after Test Pipes and oil problems, HELP!!
Hi everyone, I installed aam resonated yesterday pipes on my z recently and it is making a very loud metal on metal rattle. I have always had fast intentions cat back on the car and the sound sounds like it is coming from somewhere on the front/middle of the car. It is tuned but I don’t think that has anything to do with it. I also have cold air intakes on it. I posted a video on YouTube but can’t figure out how to upload it titled: 370z rattle after test pipes. Please can anyone help, anyone had this issue with there z? I just want to be able to enjoy the car again.
Unrelated to that, I also did my oil change recently, the same way I have always done it on my z for years and afterwards, there is a ticking sound coming from the engine, not the usual vq tick it has always done that and I know what that sounds like. This is another tick louder coming from somewhere else. Once again if anyone has any advice it would be great. Checked oil on dipstick after cooldown for 6 hours and the oil level was at the H mark |

A metallic exhaust rattling could be a number of things:
1. Could be a leak. 2. Check the mounting/connection. 3. Check the support bracket. For the oil, how many miles are on the car? And where is the ticking coming from? Regarding the oil level, best time to check is after the car has been sitting overnight and letting gravity do it's thing. |
I will give everything a good check again but I have checked it multiple times, it only rattles under load though so i can’t replicate it on jack stands or tell where it comes from when driving. I think it could be the heat shield that is around the o2 sensor on the headers, but I can’t tell and haven’t tried to remove them cause they are deep in there.
And for the oil, I went to work for the day then came out and checked oil before starting it was right on the h line. The car has 88,000 and to me it sounds like it comes from the back of the engine, it is louder underneath the car but it more forward than transmission, deff coming from in the engine bay/ engine. |
It only rattles right around 3.5k rpms as well, or occasionally after coming to a stop it will for a few seconds

Stupid question. Are the test pipes new or used?
I’ve had a rattle that I attributed to “test pipe rasp/hiss” for the last 2 years. Turns out the resonator on the test pipe had failed and the welds cracked which I only noticed after removing the test pipes from the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yes they were new

When I had my Motordyne Art pipes, there was a specific bolt on the floorboard that had to be cut off because the resonator would hit it and rattle like crazy. Worth a look.

Sounds like your exhaust center pipes are mm away from cross brace and touching it under certain conditions. Very common actually, I would check that first

I have about a quarter to a half inch in between the exhaust and the mid pipe, it does hit if I put all my weight on it and hang from the exhaust w car on lift but can’t get it to do it on jackstands cause I can’t get enough leverage on it, I really have to hang on it for it to hit, could that be it at certain rpm only?

You can stick some washers under the bolts to space the brace further from the exhaust if you think that’s the issue. I’d also check to make sure all heat shields are bolted up properly and don’t have excessive play. They’re thin sheet metal so they can flop around easily Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I honestly think it comes from the header around the o2 sensor on the headers but it is so deep in there I haven’t tried to get it off, I can try the spacers on the w brace and see if that helps but the way it only rattles at 3.5 k or after coming to a stop makes me think it isn’t that but I have no idea lo

Thank you to everyone for putting in your advice
