EPA Kills Flex Fuel Dead.
It's all over (kin)folks.. starting in 2023. Word on these streets is that post-2022, if you run flex and need to tweak your tune, ECUtek will update your software like Zoren checking a prostate, for regulatory reasons. Our lords and carbon-savers at EPA say that modding evap is verboten, be it soft- or hard-ware

The writing was on the wall when the EPA went after the diesel tuning guys and shut most of them down. It was just a matter of time for the car tuning world.

The tiny impact the auto enthusiast market has on global emissions is laughable.
Really a waste of effort on the part of the EPA. I get regulating daily drivers, commuters. Cars that do a lot of miles every year. Sports cars make up what like 1.5% of the US car market? And generally drive a fraction of the miles that a commuter car does. There should be some exemption for leisure only vehicles. |
Developers will be forced to innovate and come up with ways to give us what we want still. I'm sure it will take a little while unless they saw writing on the wall and have been working on this already.
Seems like main issue with Flex Fuel will be how to get the signal from the content analyzer into the ECU. I saw where Ecutek can now do this via the rear O2 sensor instead of the EVAP Purge Solenoid. Obviously you still need your rear O2 to be in full compliance but hopefully they are working on something that can still use the factory ECU and we don't have to switch to a stand alone ECU! |

A more pressing issue is that DTC cleaning, tricking the O2 sensors into thinking catalytics exist, etc., are going away. Boosted Zs in states with emissions testing won't pass.

No emissions testing in Wisconsin. :)
