I'm not sure exactly what it's called but the hose that comes from your intake tube goes on that. It allows fresh air into the engine.

I broke the same piece off my valve cover lol You have to replace the whole valve cover. Ordered from Z1, havent replaced it yet though.

maybe you could drill and tap this valve cover to save a buck? instead of replacing it with a new one:
