My Z died. Would crank but would not start.
Hi! I drive a 2009 AT with 7,000 miles. I bought it used. I've had the car for about 8 months. A few nights ago I was driving at a speed of around 20-40km/h. It was a pretty normal evening. Weather was cool, oil temp was normal. I'd only driven for about 30 minutes.
At around 7pm, the car started to lose power all of a sudden. All my instruments, lights, AC, etc. remained on. The ignition also remained at the "ON" position. Only the engine wasn't on. Luckily, I was able to park it at the side of the road before it really died. The first thing that came to mind was that I ran out of gas because it sounded like it! And also because it's been a month since the last time I topped up. The fuel gauge said I still had half a tank, but I've read several times that our fuel gauges are not the most accurate. Luckily, again, there was a gas station right in front of me, so I put in 20 liters. Still wouldn't start. It would crank, but not start. I had the Z towed to my house, and that was the end of day one. The next day I bought a new battery, and again, it cranked but no start. I had it scanned for codes, but no codes popped up. At this point I was clueless. One thing I haven't tried is fill up the tank all the way to full. Think this could solve it? I've read countless threads, and watched several videos, and all symptoms say it's a bad fuel pump. I have a new one coming in already. Just hasn't arrived yet. Some also say that it could be the fuel pump relay. But I had it checked also, and the relay was good. What do you guys think? Appreciate all the replies. Cheers! **A little background of my Z... I don't use it as my daily. Just my weekend car. I rarely drive it super fast. Never tracked. Bone stock, zero mods. Never had a problem with it before. Previous owner barely used it.** |

Not sure if you've done this. Easy step to confirm whether fuel pump runs would be to listen to it prime.

Did you order an entire fuel pump module assembly? I ask as I installed a new pump motor only and still had issues. After installing the entire module all was fixed. I attribute it to being a bad fuel pressure regulator which is built into the module.
