Gonna have to start that teardown if you want to know for sure. Yes, the gaskets are up front, but they aren't going to be making the noise. In very casual observation over the years, Cylinder #5 seems to be the most common one to show symptoms first when things go wrong.
What I can tell you is that it didn't help anything revving it up hard to record the noise ![]() ![]()

Do all years of 370z VQs fit the 2009? I believe updated would have something or at least a sensor different haha. What about g37, q50, will those vq drop in? AWD shouldn’t matter since that’s drive train, just looking to get some info, cleaning garage to get it ready for this uninstall/install. Once again thanks everyone for the quick and knowledgeable replies!

Nice article explaining Rod-knock. Not meant to educate the OP or anything, just for those who need a simple definition.

New engine on the way! I’ll document the install and removal, A little hint when trying to find an engine for these cars don’t look up 370z VQ look up Q50 VQ you save about 1200 bucks, just swap harness and accessories, not bad to buy a motor for $500

You only paid 500 dollah for a used engine or a remanufactured engine from Nissan?

UPDATE: cylinder 2 is the one with a spin bearing, dropped oil pan and you can see the destruction in that cylinder, as well as the noise before, all
Coming from cylinder 2. Glad I didn’t waste any time on getting a new engine! Will keep the forum updated |
