Working battery AND alternator but still won’t charge
Just as the title says. I bought and tested a new battery and alternator and the car still won’t charge. The battery’s maintain 12v after charged but as soon as I turn on the car the volts drop to 11 and keep dropping till the car eventually dies. Again the alternator DOES work and the I did a parasitic drain test and nothing seems to be draining the battery. What else can it be?

Your best bet will be the FSM, (link in my sig). I suspect there is a fuse/fusible link at or near the block of stuff that is by the positive terminal of the battery, that is shot. Good luck.

Do you have any aftermarket electronics? stereo? additional lights?
Just to be clear, with a charged battery or a jump, the car will start right? And the gauge shows it charging at 14 ish volts? |
Check the inline fuses on the battery positive and make sure they are not blown.

There are 3 fuses you need to check. One is a 140A fuse at the battery, the other is a 100A fuse near it. The third one is a 10A that comes off terminal 3 of the alternator. Page CHG-14 of the FSM has the info. Do not rely on visual inspection, take a ohm meter and check resistance. All three should be under 1 ohm. My bet is on the 10A fuse for terminal 3 of the alternator. :tiphat:

Any update on this? I am also having battery/alternator issues.

Go to PepBoys or whatever autoparts store is in your area and ask them to do a battery & alternator check. It's usually free, at least it is in my part of the country. :tiphat: |
