Default $100 eBay Oil Cooler?

I'm sorry, this has to be asked. What is everyone's true thoughts on a universal / eBay oil cooler?

This guy on YouTube swears by it functioning well, as do others in the YouTube comments. It's $100 for the whole kit and thermostatic plating, he links it in the video.

A good oil cooler setup should run $600-$700 normally. Then after investigating on eBay I found a 30 row oil cooler for $120 ; that's $20 more than the 15 row he links in his video:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/26465664449...d1jso&LH_BIN=1

Please be respectful as we ALL know the reputation eBay warrants.

That will become your Z's weakest link. If you're asking, you already know the answer. Don't do it.

Honestly I am waiting to see how this guy's Z holds up in the future myself. I DD my Z on the highway with cruise control mostly so I don't expect to be getting an oil cooler. But the numbers / readings the guy on YouTube is getting don't lie either, so it could be a budget option for spirited drivers.

Spend the coin and purchase a reputable brand oil cooler for your Z it’s one area you don’t want to cheap out. You will thank yourself later on. There are so many really nice oil cooler kits for the 370Z do it right the first time.

Wasn’t it Chuck’s friend’s car or something, had a mishitmoto adapter/thermostatic plate that failed and cause motor damage?

1. Anyone can make a YouTube video.
2. People lie

Oil coolers are simple and should be reasonably cheap. You can even make one yourself. Being universal means it won't fit right to start, the hoses and brackets wont line up for your car so your going to have to make your own. Bottom line how much will it cost you to replace your engine if an hose fails? More then $300 i bet, so spend a bit more now on a reliable well made good fitting kit made for your car.

The primary reason for cost differential between oil cooler kits is the quality of the material of the cooler core. So ask yourself if that amount of money is worth risking a cheap core with paper thin metal fins taking damage from a rock or debris and dumping all your oil at 70 mph on the highway?

Your answer should be no btw. Make sure you get a Setrab core. Build the rest of the kit from scratch and save yourself some $$$.

From one enthusiast to another, pass. I did some research on putting together parts on my own and never came close to that price for the core, lines, and fittings. Ended up with the FI kit. Of course they'll swear by it......until their lines start to leak or worse. Do yourself a favor and do your Z right. eStay eWay from eBay.

It might be fine, it might not. I am one of those people who feel that sometimes the cheap choice can be fine. Lots of people around here prefer to overkill every solution.

That being said, I wouldn't be the first, second, third, or even 50th person to try it when it comes to something like this. Stakes are too high in case of a failure.

Your car deserves better than ebay junk.

Buy once cry once, get an FI kit and be done with it.
