370Z 7AT won’t upshift
As title states, the car won’t upshift when on D. Revs up high but won’t shift to the next gear. Won’t even let me put it on semi-manual to use paddle shifters to upshift. This just happened and I’m not sure what I can do about it.

Update: now the vehicle only drives on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Won’t go any higher than that.

Check for DTCs? Reset the computer? Get it to a shop?

Buy/rent/borrow an OBD scan tool and see if any DTCs are present. Modern cars are very good at self-diagnosis. If no DTCs are present, reset the TCM (remove a battery cable and press on the brake pedal for a few seconds). This will also reset the ECM, erasing some tuning parameters, so the engine may run a little rough for the first few miles. Emissions system will have to go through several drive cycles before you can pass an emissions test. If you are still stumped, take to an expert. |
P0720: output speed sensor. I replaced the sensor and still same code. I drove it around monitoring voltage and it read zero the entire time. My last resort is taking it to an expert, so is there anything else I could possibly do before that? Will try the tcm reset.

For anybody reading this. My buddy had this issue with his 7AT ! The trans wouldn’t shift past 3rd gear and it turned out to be the entire valve-body was faulty(not working correctly) and needed replacing. He swapped out the valve body from a used transmission off of a wrecked car and it resolved his issue !
