How do I know its NISMO ?
Hey guys , Im looking at buying a used carrier case and its claimed to be out of a 2016 Nismo 370 . Just wondering if theres any way of ensuring its a Nismo diff as the main purpose of the swap is the 3.96 gears and VLSD . a little upgrade from my open base diff.
Im thinking vin number maybe? Also this is in canada Thanks |
If nobody comes up with an answer, the FSM (link in my sig) probably can tell you the differences between rear ends. Plenty of drawings.

Easiest way is to pop open the diff cover and if you see exposed spider gears its open.
|
That would tell me its a VLSD but not the 3.9 .... followed up with the guy and he seems legit

Unfortunately, this is an easy scam. Even if the guy sounds legit. Caveat emptor :eekdance:
Gear Ratio is the number of revolutions a driving (pinion) gear requires to turn a driven (ring) gear through one complete revolution. So you'll have to open up the diff and then turn the input shaft and see how many revolutions it takes to make one complete turn of the axle shaft. |
To my knowledge 2015 is the only year that came 3.92 gear ratio with the nismo. And to determine if its vlsd spin the axle flange, if both spin...its lsd, if its just one its open.
Going back to the 3.90 gear ratio, i was doing tons of research and searching for one, but couldn't justify 900 bucks! Settled for 2012 sport 3.69...love it! Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |
