Check the back side of the CV joint for anything that doesn't look normal.

This is what I thought. OP pop the stub axle out of the diff and see if it's damaged. If not I bet somebody just lubed the crap out of it when they put it together.

The only thing I can think of. This may have been a part before and they coated it with oil to keep from rusting.

there is only a fluid seal between the stub and the carrier housing if you had a leak you would expect fluid to be everywhere except where it is in your photos lol
