Default Codes and Problems, engine ticking noise

So driving around this weekend noticed a ticking noise from the motor. Its very noticeable at idle, can't hear it when reving due to normal engine noises but it seems to increase in frequency with rpm.

I hope that works.

Also I have a few codes too.

My 16 NISMO ticks at idle. It's pretty loud, but it has done that since new. It's somewhat noticeable at a red light, but I can only really hear it if I'm stopped near a wall or something to bounce the sound back to me.
My understanding is that that is from the valve train, and is normal.

P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
Still an issue I check the two valves one at the gas cap and one at the firewall/intake manifold area, both operate when powered. Last time this code popped up I lost all engine power, almost braking. Essential the engine sputters no matter what throttle input, only when I release the throttle and get back on it do I get power back. I am not sure how the could be related. I think the loss of power is another issue, but there are not always codes when I lose power. Which is why I didn't mention it initally.

About the only odd thing is that the Oil Catch can is piped so that any oil caught goes into the oil pan.

P0116 NISSAN - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. Ordered a off brand replacement sensor to see if that solves it.

P0456 NISSAN - Evaporative Emission Control System Very Small Leak Detected went away when I just lubed the o-ring on the gas cap, might need a new one.

Question

Not related. Do you have a one way check valve on the line going to the oil pan?

Is it a issue if the oil pan is being vented to atmosphere from that line?

I did find and have ordered a replacement evap line that was in the back of the motor near the exhaust that was melted, have capped it for now.

My car does tick at cold start a bit and it can be easier to hear when the oil dipstick reads below high. My understanding is that it's a normal noise coming from the head and not enough oil in the engine will increase the noise. I would even assume if the engine really lacks oil it may even clack instead of just ticking.

Yeah...I thought the ticking was the lifters and low on oil. It can also be caused from not using fully synthetic oil and or ester oil but this guys has codes......

Hi. Youtube says "Video unavailable". I suppose you have marked it as "private" or removed it.

Was curious to listen to it, since I today noticed a ticking noise from my engine.

Just as in your case, it can only be heard at idle. Can't hear it when driving, and it also goes away at standstill when touching the accel pedal slightly to rev the engine.

Funny thing is (in my case at least) it's only present when the engine is warm. I don't hear it when cold.

This is what the engine sounds like when cold:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW80U_ZiDJ0

Pretty loud. Hoping it's just normal/common valvetrain noise?

And this is when it has warmed up (after a 20 minute in this video):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy0xqN3AgJ0

The ticking remind me of the infamous (and super common) Mustang BBQ tick that a lot of owners supposedly "solved" by adding liqui moly ceratec.

My engine was recently (500 miles ago) rebuilt completely due to a rod knock issue, so I cannot imagine it being oil pressure related (ie. gallery gasket). A brand new oil pump was even installed.

I wonder if my tick is just valvetrain-related (and harmless)? Lifter tick?

Or could it be from the "evap canister purge volume control solenoid valve" which can be pretty loud according to others here on the forums?

My '16 NISMO has had a fairly loud idle tick from the valve train since I bought it with 180 miles on it. I first noticed it when I was sitting in a drive-thru, waiting for my food. I could hear it if I accelerated there, but it's not noticable when under way. I still hear it occasionally, but with 65,000 miles on her, I don't pay it any mind.

Sounds like it's probably VVEL but difficult to tell from a cell phone video. You might want to try switching to ester oil at your next change - it's supposed to quiet things down a bit.

Currently using an ester fortified oil by ardeca (Belgian brand).
https://www.ardeca-lubricants.be/en/...orts-5w40/459/

I suppose I could try another ester oil when it's time for the next oil change to see if it makes a difference.
