MotorvateDIY: How to Check Fuel Pressure

As our cars age, they will start to need more maintenance and we will need to learn more about how to troubleshoot and repair them.

With that said, I would like to introduce:
[b\Motorvate's DIY Garage Ep.36: How to Check Fuel Pressure[/b]
All you need is a $65 fuel tap and a cheap (mine was $9!) 100 psi pressure gauge.
I hope it will be helpful, either now or later :)

I got one of the first one's that phunk made. I used an tee to turn the gauge. Plus I can tap into the tee for remote sensing later.

Just installed one on Friday; quick and simple to install and such an easy way to be able check the fuel pressure considering our cars don't have Schrader ports to be able to connect up a test gauge.

Took about 5 minutes to install Phunk's fuel tap and pressure gauge since my upper plenum was already off

That was the last mod I did ... cause of how easy it was :)

It is interesting to see how the design has evolved.

Why is your fuel pressure so high?

The problem with using a guage, is that you can only see the pressure at idle.

That $9 gauge was removed after that episode was shot and replaced with a nice Honeywell 100 psi pressure sensor, connected to my data recorder.

On a future episode we will show much the stock fuel system varies in pressure.

Normally it's around 54 psi at an idle.

I've got this mod too.. gauge is looking pretty rough after the last couple of years in that hot engine compartment.
