Catch Cans & Unequal Oil Capture
I have read a few posts where folks have mentioned that each catch can collects a different amount of oil.... so I wanted to see if that is accurate.
If you have dual catch cans, does one collect more oil than the other? If so, which one collects more? (driver side or passenger side) |
Mine are close to the same amount

I've had differences in amount.

I've only gone about 4k miles since installing cans (garage queen), but last I checked they were very uneven and IIRC the passenger side had more.

I don't run catch cans (at the moment) and instead just vent to atmosphere, but if the color differences are any indication I have significantly more oil coming from the passenger side pcv.

Thanks for all the comments for far.
For those that have commented, are you normally aspirated or have forced induction? |

edit: I am using the OEM PCV valve and general OEM routing with the exception of adding a catch can in the loop. Fresh air intake comes from my turbo inlet pipes. |
I'm NA and my passenger side collects more.

Mine are also uneven. I'm pretty sure Pax side is getting more. Both cans are mounted on the Pax side which has a shorter run. I'm N/A.

If the difference between the ammout oil is captured is large, make sure that the oil separator check valve, that's the little thing on the top of your valve cover that you connect your hose to and run to catch can isn't broken or clogged up, this creates pressure and oil can't enter the bearings, very big problem down the road.

You have close to 100 psi pushing oil everywhere. |
