Battery Tender vs Trickle charger

I am a new owner of a 370Z and will be storing it in the winter. My question is, should I use a battery tender or a trickle charger, also should I disconnect the battery from the car?

I've been using the following tender for almost 10 years now. My Z sits for the entire winter in the garage hooked to it. My OEM battery lasted almost 9 years, which I attribute to this tender and my seasonal driving habits. I've never disconnected the battery when charging with this. It comes with a lead you can attach to the battery that allows you to quickly disconnect it and go. I highly recommend it, especially if it isn't going to be your daily driver.

I've been using battery tenders for the past 30 yrs. On both bikes and cars.

Thanks, it looks like it's going to be a battery tender. The battery tender jr states, "*Not recommended for 1999 and newer cars because of the constant draw that their advanced electric systems require; use the Battery Tender Plus instead." Trying to decide between these two, https://www.costco.com/battery-tende...100519712.html

I have two of these and agree they work great! I keep the ring terminal on my Z because we don't drive it often. Bought the 2nd one due to COVID and not driving my wife's car lately. Very convenient!

The one I'm using is about 30 yrs old. It's still chugging along.

Like I said, I bought this awhile back. Mine looks slightly different then the link I posted. Maybe they changed it in the newer models? All I can tell you is that this has worked flawlessly for me for all these years.

I wouldn't disconnect the battery from the car as you will lose tuning params and possibly radio presets. You might also need to do a auto-window reset. And the emissions system will reset to a not-ready state.

But none of that is a big deal: the ECM will relearn the tuning after after 15-20 minutes; reentering the radio presets isn't all that difficult; the window reset takes 30 seconds max; unless you plan on doing an emissions test right away it's not a problem - system will be ready after a few drive cycles.
But why have to do any of that when you can just leave the system hot?

I've never disconnected my battery since 2011 when using the Battery Tender. Still have the oem battery.

I have both the Jr. and higher output versions for years. The Jr. version will work fine and will take about a day to fully charge the battery.

Since it will be connected to your car over the Winter, I am sure it will be fine.

I don't think the car will drain faster than it charges.
