Need Opinion: Diff. Brace Install
4 Attachment(s)
I'm installing a Royalty Performance Diff Brace on my otherwise stock 7AT with 91k miles no signs of broken diff bushings. Upon hand snugging the bottom bolts to the cover I have at least a 1/4" gap between the brace and subframe with the diff loaded and unloaded.
Without asking age nor mileage, Royalty says the diff bushings are sagging/worn, and to tighten the subframe bolt first, then let the cover bolts pull the differential into place. :ugh2: Is it me or is anyone else hesitant about the amount of tension this will put on the differential housing, cover bolts (shortened by the brace thickness) and potentially driveshaft? I'd much rather add a bolted through plate under the brace to subframe connection side to address the gap. Thanks for any insight you can lend! :tiphat: |
I would suspect your diff bushings are done. Replace them and retry the diff brace install. I use the Z1 poly diff bushings.

SPL solid diff bushings :twocents:

Probably the best bet with new bushings.
Being it's a daily driver type and 7AT, thinking about just doing the fronts as the rear shows zero sign of failure. It seems the fronts can be done with the sway bar removed and all else in place. |
