Oil pressure
My oil pressure reads about 15 psi at 200 degrees at idle, do you think this is ok or a bit low? Should I look into changing the gaskets that many mention? Thanks!

Also keep in mind most gauges have a typical accuracy of +/- 1-3% of full scale. For a 100 PSI gauge with 1% accuracy it can be off 2 psi (+1 or -1) Now, if it is consistently around 10 psi at idle, then it may be time to look into gaskets. |

I've got some questions. They may or may not be dumb; I certainly am.
What does it matter if the gauge doesn't go above 100? The oil pressure only reads over 100 on startup, right? So if the gauge maxes out on startup then why does it matter if you can read the extra 20 psi or not? I mean if it damages the gauge or something that makes sense, but I've never heard of that. I got my gauge to make sure my oil pressure doesn't drop too low. What would be the need to check oil pressure when it maxes out?

Wouldn't 100psi indicate that? Even if you don't see the actual max pressure, you would see it peg 100 for a period of time then you would see it drop below 100.

As with any gauge, having a scale that is above normal readings, adds a bit more of an accuracy to the gauge. Also, gauges with smaller increments help a lot. My preference anyway. Then you go digital and then you got everything covered. LOL. |

Cheers
To be clear I purchased a 150 psi gauge a year ago. So I'm all set. I was just curious.

Any gauge that gets pegged on a regular basis will fail sooner then later. Gauges do not like being pegged. You damage the internals and the sensor. A digital would be a bit better at being pegged.
