Shifter/ Shift knob vibration
just got my 2010 Z sports coupe a few days ago and it has about 100 miles on it.......
hmmmmmmmmm i just realized the vibration on the shifter..... i have a habit of holding on to the shift knob when i drive.... perhaps many of us have similar habits BUT the vibration is something i am not used to, especially when i am accustomed to BMW 3 series... is there any way/ method/ aftermarket parts to minimize the vibration? i did read from this forum that the vibration is normal for Z, but just curious as to what i can do..................... |
I know how you feel. It makes you feel uneasy like its broken or something. But you'll get use to it after awhile. I actually prefer the vibration now. When I drive my friends cars and feel nothing, it almost feels like their car is dead to me, like its not giving me any feedback. But that's just me...I would be curious to know if there is a solution for this.

bro ur feelin a powerful beast now thats y it shakes hahahahaahahaha :)
i love it and driving the 2010 370z stick its funny and alot easier for beginners as well for those who never drove stick before S mode helps alot |
Again... it's pretty simple. The shifter is directly mounted to the transmission, which is directly mounted to the engine, both of which vibrate.
This is totally normal, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You will eventually get used to it. There is nothing that will minimize it. All aftermarket shifters are solid and are designed to reduce the factory "slop." As a result they will vibrate more. The factory shifter has some hard rubber components designed to dampen vibrations from the drive train. |
When I had the B&M Short Shifter installed, a lot of that vibration went away. I also installed the Forged 1lb shift knob so theoretically I would be able to feel even MORE vibration, but honestly it feels much smoother and has less vibration.
