Experiences with Zspeed 6 puck
Hi guys,
I have found the limit of my ZSpeed stage 2 clutch kit around 12-13 psi of boost on my twin turbo setup. I knew this was coming, it was my own gamble. The clutch is rated 450 engine tq and i must be running a bit more than that now. My options are (incl shipping to Europe): - Stage 3 clutch $+-850 - Change to a 6 puck disc $200 As you can see, quite a price difference. So i am looking for experiences with the zspeed 6 puck. Anyone can share? Especially the "pedal feel" and on/off feeling. I dont daily the car and find a little bit of judder/on-off acceptable. But i dont want to have to rev to 3000rpm in order to be able to leave a traffic light.. |
I am not familiar with the Zspeed 6 puck but I do run a SpecialtyZ 6 puck and it has been awesome at 600whp plus.

You will gain more to capacity changing friction material with the same pressure plate. If you want to get a GENERAL idea ACT rates their HD organic clutch a 448tq and their HD 6 puck at 574tq.

I contacted Joe and will install a sprung ACT 6 puck. Will report back :-)

Okay, just wanna report back for future readers:
The 6 puck deffinately has a much smaller engagement window. It's fine for a project car, I wouldnt like to use this on the daily. However, it's not that hard to get the car moving but it just requires a bit more feel. I'm using this setup because I didnt want to upgrade my entire clutch and have chosen the budget option by swapping from full face to 6 puck disc. Starting out fresh I would pick the south bend stage 3 that Zspeed sells over this (easy street+6puck) every day. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |

Ran a Competition Clutch Stage 4 6 puck ceramic clutch and Competition Clutch forge steel flywheel from AAM for five years. The 6 puck design Z enthusiasts have to get used to as far as drivability. At the track this clutch set up was solid held the power efficiently and shifts were very positive. For street duty the 6 puck design honesty leaves a lot to be desired in terms of overall drivability. At the track the flywheel ended up getting damaged from all the hard launches and power shifting or this set up would have kept going. Flywheel replacement was inevitable although the clutch could have been reused very reliable/dependable design clutch for Z enthusiasts putting down a lot of whp and wtq or track the heck out of their Z.
