Default Strange issue then car died.

hey guys,

I did a lots of searches and haven't found anything similar yet.

So was driving to work and while merging onto the highway in 3rd gear when I tried to accelerate the car just suddenly red lined and I thought I missed a shift or something but was still in gear, tried shifting to 4th same deal just free revs.

pull over with the car in neutral and when I came to a stop it just died and won't start now.

2009 sport 6mt car has 78k KM on it and the engine has around 10,000 KM on it as Nissan replaced it. Haven't had any other issues or symptoms. Also not showing any codes and when hooked up to torque everything seems normal.

Only thing I can think of is the clutch blew but not sure if that would cause it not to want to start after. Any Ideas?

Maybe its a sign that it is time to move on to a C8

Unexpected revs sounds like it might be the throttle pedal but I don't see how that would prevent it from starting. And it should throw a DTC.

A weak battery can cause weird problems.

Description here is vague you should have thrown a DTC. Sounds like something electrical. The last time I seen this was on a 09 Z that inexplicably died after driving at freeway/highway speed after diagnosis was found to be faulty battery and alternator. This issue can be diagnosed and repaired this is not a sign to purchase a C8 Corvette. Depending on your climate batteries can have a short life.

Battery is new this summer and shows 14V when i tested it.

the free revving was only when I applied the throttle it didn't do it on its own, main thing there was when in gear it revved but no power to the wheels. I had to coast to the side of the road.

Every now and then it will fire and show 200rpm but won't stay running.

have you tried jump starting it and seeing if the revving issue repeats itself?

I was all set to order a C8, when I saw it in person, realized it wouldn't work for my wife and I.

There just isn't enough luggage capacity for a real trip, which the c4 through c7 had plenty of, the 370z has enough too.

The other issue was the passenger has no place for their left arm, there is no way my wife would be ok with that on a long trip, probably not even an hour long trip.

Instead, we will be getting a 2020 Supra (a tune alone will get it to nearly 500 hp and 500 tq). It has a lot of storage and the passenger can sit comfortably.

I don't know if these issues are critical for you, but they were deal breakers for me. We will keep the 370z and trade in her SLK.

Fuel pump? Try using some starter fluid.

Is your clutch also shot? Revving, but no go might be a bad clutch.

Have it towed to Speed Tech and let Jesse work on it. Tell Amanda, its a dead car emergency and she will fit you in. They have a flat deck car hauler now, so they can pick it up.

It sounds like there is no gas or spark to the engine. As for the free revs in gear, I not sure but it doesn't sound good.

Update:

finally had time to deal with it car went to Nissan and they said it skipped timing and bent a valve. So either need to rebuild engine or replace it

Not sure how a engine with only 33,000Km on it in 5 years with zero issues has this happen

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate luck. From what I have seen it’s a rare occurrence bending valve/s. Definitely rebuild it and upgrade since you have the opportunity there are a lot of choices.
