the ecu might have mistaken that you were downshifting to a lower gear (1st) and attempted to rev-match and it over rev'd the engine in the process.

Nope went straight to 4th, pricing out a top end rebuild if the pistons are ok and a full rebuild if not vs just doing a used engine for now. If I do the used engine I told them I want the engine that's in my car and will either rebuild it or sell it as a core to recoup some costs. Should know what's going to end up cheaper for now this week.

Free revs would have to be a clutch problem..specifically no longer engaged. So csc not returning, diaphram spring damaged, worn out disc, possibly broken input, output or drive shaft right on back to differential and rear axles. So I would check the complete driveline. Not starting would be a separate issue typically ignition or fuel but a broken timing chain would do it as well. I hate to say t but it sounds rather serious. Good luck in your search for the problem.

Not sure how a engine with only 33,000Km on it in 5 years with zero issues has this happen

Not even sure why your trying to deal with Nissan. Go to the after market people that actually work on Nissan performance cars everyday and give solid advise.

Speedtech is the preferred shop in Edmonton. They have the most premier builds in town and have plenty of contacts and proper resources to help you.

Dealing with Nissan is only for service items and issues under warranty because you have to. Sad to say but Nissan dealerships cant keep good techs anymore, they all work in the aftermarket business.

Everytime I glance at this thread title I read it as "Strange issue then cat died" and I'm like "sorry for your loss, and is this the right forum for you?"
