Differential bushing

It would appear my diff bushing has blown, noticed some brownish fluid on my driver side exhaust pipe right under the bushing, however from the rear the bushing seems fine, going to try jacking up the car and see if I'm able to see the other side to confirm it has actually torn. Mainly if it has gone bad, i'm curious on the consensus on the best differential bushing to replace it with. Searching just brought up various different answers and from many years ago. Seems the top 3 are Z1, SPL and Whiteline.

if there is goo back there, its blown. I went with SPL.

:iagree:
Even if it’s not blown; gonna benefit from replacing it.
I used the Z1 poly bushings on my last Z & they worked fine for me,,,lately peanut have been using the solid bushings...as SPL definitely is 1st class.
Just be prepared to do a little work or have a reputable shop perform this.
DIY threads are somewhere & may even be able to find video’s :ugh2:

Yeah, it's blown. Mine was starting to goop so I swapped it. SPL solid bushings are the way to go if you see heavy track usage. If you see track usage, if you track here and there and are more of a daily driver, I recommend this over the Z1 bushing.

Energy suspension makes urathane bushings also.

I've installed 2 SPL bushings and 1 Z1 bushing. My 2 cents. The SPL was easier to install. If you install it yourself. Don't be like bunk and try to install the bushing from the rear. They are easier to install from the front.

The replacement bushings are a little shorter then what the hole is long. When you install from the front. You only have to push the bushing in until it's flush with the front of the hole. You will still have about 1/8 to 3/16 recess in the rear. If you install from the rear. You have to push the bushing that extra 1/8 to 3/16 to get it flush in the front. Why do the extra work? Plus less chance of getting hung up like bunk did. Installing from the front gives you more room to swing a BFH too.

Hopefully the next one I do will be with the whole subframe out from underneath car :ugh2:
Plan to give it the whole works when the moment arrives

Are 370Z subframes expensive?

On my 240, i just got a junked one, burned out all the bushings, and did all the SPL replacements at once

then swap the subframes and repeat

there was some wierd fitment **** because I had an S15 diff inside of an S13 pumpkin on an S14 with an auto-to-manual swapped drivetrain. that was fun

You can get a used subframe for less than 500 bucks. I was sourcing them just to cover my bases.

I have the Z1 bushing removal tool for sale. HMU! Made my upgrade very easy.

Hello everyone ! I need desperate help I am doing diff work to the z. I am using z1’s poly bushings. I already have the 2 front ones in but I broke the rear one today trying to get it in. I am overnight shipping one for tomorrow and I need to be prepared. Z1’s instructions say to remove the metal casing from the bushing bang the bushing in from the driveshaft side with a rubber mallet and then put the metal casing in after. The way I broke it today was trying to thread it in from the back but it just wouldn’t go in and broke it trying to take it out. Have any of you found an easier/better way ? Thanks in advance!

Use a saw to cut the metal collar out. Its the fastest way.

For install, go to Home Depot or Lowes, but a rod long enough to go through to the other side and nut that fits it, buy two metal flat brackets strong enough to lay against the subframe. This is your home made bushing installer.

Youtube diff bushing install and there are plenty of videos

Youtube will probably be a big help too...The 350z rear differential bushing installs pretty much the same way.

Also this will suck to do lol
