Checking engine light on

So I switched out the intakes to the K&N Typhoon and added a Gemini cat back exhaust The car ran great the few times I took it out then went to drive it and the check engine light comes on. Car goes into a limp mode? Brought it back disconnected the negative battery cable....good as new....drove it a few times and now it happened again! Except this time i took the negative cable off for only a few seconds and the car pulls like it should but the light is still on! Any thoughts? Maybe an O2 sensor?

Did you manually reset the ECU?

No, I thought by taking the negative cable off the battery that did it? How do I reset it?

Modern cars are very good at self-diagnosis. Get an OBD code reader. I suggest buying one but most auto parts stores will have loaners you can borrow. Some will even go out to the parking lot and read the DTC(s) for you.
Hook up the reader (connector is on bottom of dash, next to steering column).
After a few seconds the reader and the ECM will shake hands and you can read the DTC(s).
Google the code(s) or post them here.

How long did you leave the battery disconnected for? Try disconnecting the battery again and hit the brake pedal. What codes are you throwing? That might help you figure out where to start looking.

I only left it off for about 5 minutes. Not seeing any codes on the dash. Not sure I had to pump the brake as well. I'm thinking of just making an appointment at the local Nissan dealer?

You won't see any codes on the dash - you need an OBD reader to see the codes.

If you will post the codes here, someone will probably be able to help. At this point, taking it to a dealer would be premature (and costly).

Google "370Z ecu reset" and "370Z idle relearn". I just saved you $200.

Theres a way you can actually get the code without an obd reader but it's essentially morris code... then you need to translate the code to a table which will give you the actual code that you can use to start isolating the issue.

Or you can get an obd reader and not have to guess the counts.

Get the code read before you just get in the habit of constantly resetting it. 99% chance it's something minor but theres no way to tell without the code. Spend $25 on amazon and buy yourself a cheap OBD code reader.

Many autoparts stores will read your codes for free. Autozone and PepBoys are two that come to mind.

Yeah, but a cheap universal one is a good thing to own if you’re into cars at all.
