This CSC issue everyone talks about....
How bad is it? Are they failing on everyone's manual cars or only those who hammer the snot out of them?
Dropping the trans is no small job and I don't have the facilities to do it. I've got under 30k on my car and I don't beat on it...mostly just used for DD type duty. It's a 2014 base model. Paying $1500+ for something that's not broken bothers me. That said I assume it's an easy swap if you have the trans out for a clutch replacement, yes? |
The stock CSC WILL fail. It's just a poor design so expect it to fail even if you're not beating on the car. Best option is once it fails to replace it with the ZSpeed CMAK kit in order to convert it to an external slave cylinder.
And yes if you already have the trans out for a clutch job, you'd probably want to replace the CSC. |
I've put 65k on my 2010 Z. No issue. Could it detonate tomorrow? Sure, but I'm hoping it doesn't, lol. Had I replaced with the csc delete or hd csc years ago when I bought my Z, I'd have blown $1400 on preventative maintenance that so far hasn't been necessary. At least when mine goes the car will be due for a fresh clutch anyway so it won't be much of a loss. I've kept up with my fluids though. Not sure if that makes any difference in the csc life. Also, I don't exactly baby my car, but I don't take it to the strip either. I usually drive it in a spirited fashion until I get tired of smiling.

When I replaced my clutch I replaced my csc with a zspeed heavy duty and my master cyl at the same time. How bad is it when it fails? Not that bad, it’s just like you don’t have a clutch... at all.

I have 36,000 miles on my Z. And yes, I beat on it. Still have the OEM set-up. Had no issues yet. Have the clutch line wrapped with insulation down by the exhaust pipe to keep the heat away. And replaced the stock fluid with Motul 600 brake fluid. I'm not counting on it to last. So my next winter project with be a Tilton lightweight 5.5 lb clutch/pressure plate, flywheel, with the CMAK, RJM pedal and a Tilton master cylinder. Changing the shifter from a TWM to a Coolerworx.

If it's your DD and you have backup transportation, I'd wait until it starts acting up. Some ppl have had good luck - you might be one of the lucky ones.

I just keep the fluid clean. 60 or 70k, many hard launches, many many hard miles in the mountains still ticking. I'm running it until it or the clutch goes then its upgrade time

I have driven a 2012 Nismo to 60k miles and my 2013 Nismo to 78k miles with no issues. Just keep the fluid clean. I would drain and fill mine ever other oil change.
