How Long Should a Complete Motor Build Take Realistically?
Hey everyone. I have been waiting 9 very long months for my engine to be built. All I am being told now is that they are having trouble with the VVEL Ladders, whatever that means. Is this typical or am I just being inpatient?

Machine shop took 8 months for mine. They were backed up. The VVEL ladders are the cam for the intake valves. You have one for each head. They should know how to handle those. Good luck.

http://www.the370z.com/forced-induction/88485-vvel.html Are you just getting the motor rebuilt or going FI? 9 months seems a long time for just a rebuild. But with that said, Id rather wait and have them do it right than rush it and run into more problems down the road. |

I hope this thread isn't foreboding for me. I'm at 4 months so far for a long block build

What is being done. Line bore. 30 over. Head port. Each operation only takes a day tops. After that one day to assy

To answer your questions, it will be FI. AAM Comp kit (which happens to be a garbage kit, the only thing good was the turbos). After replacing many parts on the turbo kit the engine is getting rebuilt with new springs, pistons, rods, bearings, new hoses, machined adapters and plates. The builder is trying to also figure out how to keep away from the infamous turbo smoking problem with these garbage kits.

Time wise, depends on the shop, and MONEY. I've seen rebuilds from one month to over a year. Avg is around 4 months. If you have all of your parts, and willing to pay to jump line. You'll get done quicker.

2 weeks of labor that takes place over 8-16 months.
Note: Its ALWAYS worth buying a spare engine to build, then swapping it over when done. This way you can continue to live your normal life with a functioning car (unless you already blew the engine). It is easily worth the cost of the extra engine to spare yourself the stress of a car sitting around in a thousand pieces. Build a spare engine, swap it in over a weekend. |
How long for a built 7AT typically?
