Help diagnose this sound

Can anyone check out this whining noise my Z is making after an oil change:

https://youtu.be/_HJuZhRJWFw

This whining noise can also occur moments AFTER the engine is shut off.

I think it is something to do with the PCV system, because when I remove the dipstick or Oil cap the noise will instantly go away but will return if I place the oil cap or dipstick back.

All I can say is I played that in my car w my phone audio plugged in and it scared the **** outta me.

That and it's too loud to be PCV. If it didnt happen before the oil change and now it does, something related to that oil change is causing the issue.

You checked the oil levels and the filter to be sure everything's all good?

Sounds a bit like a slipping belt.

shadow85 04-27-2019 06:12 PM

The reason why I believe it is the PCV is because my car makes the exact noise as this guy here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9wNM-3f9W4

especially when he turns the engine off @ around 20 seconds, jump to that and you can hear it wheezing out. My car does exactly the same thing.

I do not have access to a new PCV valve to test because apparently there are none in stock in the whole of Australia, I would have to order them from Japan if I wanted to try new ones.

Sounds like a belt tensioner or idler pulley. Pull the belt and check all of them. All of mine had to be replaced when they removed my motor for an upgrade. Also, check the power steering pump and A/C compressor.

Pull one of the hoses off of the PCV and see if the noise stops/changes.

Edit: We used to clean PCVs out with carburetor cleaner. Don't know if that still works.

Yes I pulled one of the hoses off the PCV valve when the engine was running and it drastically changed the sound of the engine, more to an unhealthy choking sort of sound so I immediately placed the hose back on!

When I first heard that on the video. I thought I was listening to a sci-fi movie.

Since you are removing the oil cap, dip stick, and vacuum hoses, the sound changes or goes away. Your motor is building pressure inside of it. Something is plugged.

shadow85 04-27-2019 11:27 PM

Ok to everyone who is scared from the first video I posted.

I decided to upload a recording of the noise it makes AFTER I turn the motor off. I repeat, this is about 30 seconds to 60 seconds after I have turned the motor off, not while it is running!

https://youtu.be/yqsFpzGnpZI

Now imagine that noise at your windowsill in your bedroom, late at night when you are asleep! I bet you, you all would s**t yourself!
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

Your car is haunted. It needs an exorcism. It's possessed. Watch it that it doesn't turn into Christine.

shadow85 04-28-2019 03:46 AM

Well, I can't promise anything.

jchammond 04-28-2019 05:37 AM

Remove belt & check all pulleys & ensure bearings are ok :ugh2:

So when its running youre being abducted by aliens, then after shutting down, the witch of west eden is chasing you. I agree with Rusty, you need to get your car exorcised!

I wouldve said it was a pulley or tensioner, but now Id have no clue as Ive never heard the last part after shutting down before.

So, this is my diagnosis:

Kill it with fire. Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Hahaha guys, that's not helping. I spent alot of money on it.

I need to atleast sell it and let it consume somebody else. Lol
No no, its my baby, I will get to the bottom of it.
