I was just listening to a radio show where the host is a car guy who answers nothing but car questions. Someone just asked him this question, his response was:
With a standard oil: 3-4K miles With a blend oil: 5k miles With a fully synthetic: 5-10k miles, or when the computer tells you it's time. |

When to do an oil change
I bought my 370Z 7A/T in Feb '09 and have 1749 miles on it. I drive it about once a week in warm weather in Florida. Based on this information should I change the oil at 1 year or wait till I have 3000 miles or more?

You should def change it since it's been almost 10 months! After this, just follow manual (which is every 3750 miles or in your case every six months maybe since you drive so less).

From the Wall Street Journal:
There are a lot of myths connected to synthetic oil, but the fact is that synthetics are generally compatible with conventional oil. You can switch to synthetic without trying to flush every trace of conventional oil from the engine. You can also switch back to conventional oil from synthetic. |

I don't think you can do that!
From the maintenance car bibles:•If you do decide to change, only go up the scale. If you've been running around on synthetic, don't change down to a mineral-based oil - your engine might not be able to cope with the degradation in lubrication. Last edited by dad; 01-06-2010 at 03:14 PM. |

Well, if your engine looks like this, it might be time.
