When to do an oil change

I was just listening to a radio show where the host is a car guy who answers nothing but car questions. Someone just asked him this question, his response was:
With a standard oil: 3-4K miles
With a blend oil: 5k miles
With a fully synthetic: 5-10k miles, or when the computer tells you it's time.
