External power applied to the OBDII port will allow the ECM to retain all settings. I did this when I swapped the battery in my 2012 and didn't lose anything.
Correct. I have one for ODB to a cig lighter, and plug it into a power pack, or nearby vehicle. with the 5 vehicles we own, its a huge time saver as opposed to trying to remember what I need to reset in each one, let alone the steps to do so. (2 Nissans, an Audi, a Subaru, and a Chevy)
I think I paid $25 for it. Would have paid double that for the time I save.
