Fuel top hat broken?
 

I have a 2009 370Z and i'm having the common problem of fuel cut off on right turns on WOT. It started about 3 months ago and ive just been dealing with it by keeping a full tank, but ive finally had enough so im trying to get to the bottom of this now. I've researched on here but i cant seem to find an answer for my exact problem. I've owned the car for 4 years and i've never had an issue with fuel cutting off until recently so im ruling out fuel starving and im assuming its somthing failing. My best guess is the fuel top hat has a crack. Is there anything else im missing? The car starts fine and on WOT its good so it cant be the fuel pump. Just on right turns on WOT id say below 3/4 tank. Thanks!

Sounds like your top hat has broken.

Mine did the same with 10 gallons in the tank on a right sweeper (40 mph) with luggage and wife in the car. Suffice to say it wasn't spirited driving. The car died 1500' later and would not restart. The previous 2.5 hrs was on a flat (other than bridges) highway.

I went back to it the next day, restarted and it's been driving fine ever since. All OE setup with a new OE fuel pump motor and sock less than 3k miles before it happened. I inspected the top hat that day and it was fully intact. I inspected the coils and found none melted. I also pulled a resistance test on each and they passed. The MAF wires were cleaned 4k miles prior to the day of the problem and I'm using dry filters so the MAF's aren't getting oiled down. A mechanic friend of mine used his Snap On scanner to test the draw (with car running) of my fuel pump and found it to be within spec.

I posted both here and several Facebook Z forums. All that surfaced was coils and fuel starvation, which I still don't buy as I've tried to make it starve with less fuel in the tank since and it hasn't happened. I feel it is a failing fuel pump relay which is built into the fuse box in the battery compartment. To replace said fuse box is a roughly $400 cost.

I found two existing fixes for the fuel starve. I'm not comfortable with the least expensive (Z1) fix due to running 2 pumps on the stock fuel pump circuit and the other is labor intensive and over $1k solution.

My experiment would be to replace the OE pick up sock with the available Holley Hydramat which will press onto the OE fuel pump as it's the same size. I just haven't gotten around to it yet, too many projects.

Thanks for the feedback. I think my best bet for now is to take out the fuel pump assembly and inspect it. Process of elimination time...

Check your fuel pickup sock too it may be plugged up.
