SES Light and ECU Reset
 

So the SES light randomly came on today, but nothing was out of place and the car is fine, and decided to reset the ECU by the pressing of the gas pedal a few times as another member stated.

1. I know the ECU is constantly adjusting to the drivers habits, and should I be driving gently?
2. If so, how long before I can start driving like the car was built to be?
3. After a reset of the ECU, do I need to do anything in particular?
4. I also read somewhere that the car would need to sit idling to re-learn the idling rpm’s as well. Is this true?

Once you reset the ECU. Drive it like you normally do. :driving: If you drive it like granny. Then the ECU will respond that way.

Not really. Unless you plan on driving gently most of the time.

The ECM has a safe set of default params. But I wouldn't go WOT for the first 10-20 miles, just in case.

No. The ECM will adjust to the way you are driving at the time. If you drive gently, the ECM will adjust itself for gentle driving ... until you start driving like a maniac. :) The ECM doesn't permanently learn how you drive immediately after a reset - it's always adjusting.

Hadn't heard that one but it may be so. If I were worried about it, I'd check the FSM.

In terms of rpm’s, when I was cruising at 60 mph today, the rpm’s were a 2.5k. May be the paranoia in me, but is this about right?
