Mishimoto Oil cooler

has anyone installed this on a 2016+ NISMO model? Mishimoto support tells me that it cannot due to the Yamaha Damper. They do not have customer feedback on this either.

Default Mishimoto Oil cooler

has anyone installed this on a 2016+ NISMO model?

Mishimoto support tells me that it cannot due to the Yamaha Damper. They do not have customer feedback on this either.

Looking at the Mishi unit, looking like a Setrab 19 row, I am assuming it should fit like the Z1 or FI units where they call for simply flipping the Damper end to end to provide clearance.

Unless the bracket is also a hinderence, I'd like to know.

I like the Silver color offering and the fittings on Mishi unit, otherwise will go
Z1 if no info on Nismo install.

Please no politics . I have done my research. I have to ask Z1 if they have a silver cooler option. Only require 19 row, so FI is not an option unless they make 19 row.

Yes, I can make my own, but I would have already done that and this question woul be moot.

Im a 2017 Nismo Tech btw.

Friends don't let friends buy Mishimoto. They have a history of bad quality.

I have a Nismo and have the Z1 34 row kit. Yes, you have to flip the dampener over. The fat part of the dampener is in the way of the cooler. I also added 1/4" thick spacers behind the brackets for added clearance.

That's what I understand in the install. 34 row will be overkill for me. I also read that people with 19 row still have a hard time getting HOT in northern climates like myself. I don't want to tape over cooler or install some sort of blocker. Not tracking.

I'd like to hear from Mishimoto users. There seems to be good reviews for their catch cans here. If they are simply rebranding standard parts, how could they have bad quality. Not sure what they are actually making in-house.

I say stay stock. The factory oil stabilizer will work just fine for you since you don't track the car and are way up North. Spend your money on something else like exhaust and intakes.

I would never put any Mishimoto parts on my Z never. Mishimoto parts are made in China good luck. My second Z had a Mishimoto 19 row oil cooler already installed by the previous owner and after inspecting I found one of the AN fittings were leaking and the sandwich plate was leaking. I ended up replacing it with a 24 row Stillen oil cooler and it never leaked and I never looked back. Be selective when you choice an oil cooler a specially.

I bought a Mishimoto magnetic oil drain plug shortly after I got my Z years ago. With barely any force the head snapped off on the second oil change leaving the shank and magnet threaded in my oil pan. Fortunately I was able to work the broken shank out of the drain hole using my fingertip. I haven't tried Mishimoto anything since.

We do get hot up here, and I will end up in traffic quite often. I also visit the mountainous/canyon areas in summer where temps will reach 86F+.

In both situations, I hit 240F oil temp and climbing, last summer. I did manage to stop for a while, so I didn't get to see higher oil temps. I think it wanted to go higher.

I noticed any spirited driving in 77+ will increase oil temp over 212. Which is fine, but if it warms up, I will get over 220. I'd like to see between 195-210.

Only problem is, how to keep it warm in spring time and early summer. Unfortunately the thermostatic valves are always partially open and blocking in cooler months would be a necessity.

Too bad there isn't a modulating blocker door for that purpose.

That could have been the fault of installer.

I do appreciate your concern and insight.

There is a thread somewhere on the forum about one member losing a motor because of the Mishimoto sandwich plate o-ring. Just a heads up.

The going consensus is either the Z1 or the FI coolers for trouble free operation. As for blocking the cooler rows off. Some use a piece of thin aluminum plate use velcro to hold it in plate.

If this is truly the case you will need a 34 row. The 19 or 24 won't cut it. Even with a 34 row I can get to 240 real easy. Keeping your oil temp at 195 to 210 is not very realistic. You will get hotter. Keeping it below 250 is more realistic especially if you are in the upper RPM levels a lot.

It really depends you choose a engine oil cooler that best matches your climate and what temperatures you normally see in the seasons. Running too cold with the VQ37HR engine isn’t good for the life of your engine and could be detrimental. In the cold fall/winter months I found a custom made block off plate works well. Also from what I gathered running anything over 245 degrees would be a corcern and needs to be addressed. It’s your Z you need to determine what engine oil cooler best works for you. Z1,FI,and Stillen would be good choices in terms of a engine oil cooler brands. In my experience I have only seen negative reviews with Mishimoto products you get what you pay for 9/10 of the time. I have seen the Mishimoto engine oil coolers leak and if you search there is a member here how lost their engine due to their Mishimoto engine oil cooler leaking and had to replace their engine on their own dime. The Mishimoto radiators are notorious for leaking worse than any other radiator brand I have ever seen. The Mishimoto racing thermostats over cool our VQ37HR engines and are possibly detrimental to our QV37HR engine. The Mishimoto magnetic engine oil pan drain plugs are notorious for snapping and breaking with little torque applied and sometimes Z owners have to replace their engine oil pans because it can’t be removed. The Mishimoto silicone radiator hoses are notorious for cracking and leaking coolant. Definitely do your research or better yet ask a forum member here before you purchase any parts for your Z.

I have sticky aluminum tape for that. But Velcro would be easier. Is cooler face accessible from the front facia of a Nismo?

Like I said, I wont be hitting those numbers on a regular basis. I think any addition or upgrade is better than stock.

I do recall a member from Toronto installing a 19 ROW and saying it was fine. They get colder and Hotter than us here in B.C.

OK, it won't be Mishimoto.

I will talk to Z1 and see what their experience base says. I can add theirs to these awesome words of advice and choose from there.
