Default Help! How do you remove the SRS module connector

Posting this here because it is a more technical question. One of the biggest problems I have working on my 370z is the figuring out how to disconnect the plug connectors. Guess I am not very bright, but it appears to be no standard way and each connector is like a Chinese puzzle.

Anyway...……… this! Main SRS behind the console.

There is an easy way to disconnect, I just don't know it and it doesn't seem to stand out. Push, or pull? What?

Many auto connectors have retainers. Often a tab on one side of the connector that catches a high spot on the other. Sometimes you can pull the tab away with a fingernail; a lot of times it takes a small screwdriver.

The FSM may have a drawing of the connector and any retainers.

Thanks for the get back. The service manual simple says: "Disconnect the diagnosis sensor unit harness connectors."

Trust me, that I get, it is the how to disconnect has me stumped. In typical fashion it is a bit of a challenge to get to, but for the life of me I cannot find a release. Do not see any tabs or catch's that a tab would attach to on the replacement module. Just looks like it should pull straight out, but do not want to force it or I may have bigger problems.

Thanks!

This is the inside of the new SRS module.

I cannot see nor feel where a tab is that hold the connector. Knowing Nissan, there is a something that is preventing the existing connectors from releasing.

That I can do. Disconnecting the damn wires is another story. Can't even find a picture of the wiring harness to see if it tells me anything.

There is a push button somewhere on the connector to release it on each connector. Look for it.

Is there some kind of locking lever? Some bigger connectors have an arm (usually on the harness side) that hooks onto some pins on the sides of the other connector (usually the device). I'm just shooting in the dark, here.

It's been 19 years since I messed with one. I don't remember a locking mechanism. IF I was there I could do it real quick.

Easy as can be if you know how to solve the Japanese puzzle. Take a screwdriver and push straight down on the top of the plug close to the module. You will hear a pop. Then it pulls straight out.

Nothing to it!!! Only took me two days to remove more things so I could get to it better and play for about two minutes. Stuff happens!

OK...……………. Moving on. (I hope anyway)

Now that the connector mystery is figured out, does the car need to be reprogrammed? Or, is there another Japanese puzzle like hitting the start button thee times, hold it till something blinks? Or, something like that?

Does the car need to go into a dealer for reprogramming?

I vaguely recall another user outlining the video-game-like procedure to reset SRS, but my memory is getting old. If you pulled a battery cable before starting, the car may not know that you did anything. FSM should have the info you want but you may have to do some digging*. But SRS is "special" (no serviceable parts inside) and details are sometimes missing (same with theft-deterrence).

*Many PDF readers have a search-all-docs-in-a-folder function. Dump all the FSM PDFs into one folder and search everything at once.

The SRS light is now blinking. Recall also seeing something on how to stop it from blinking and you are correct, it is quite complicated. Nothing anyone would figure out on their own. In this case, Google is your friend. Was hoping to not have to bring it into a shop for reprogramming.

Hello, Google.
