What can cause a fuel pump to fail?
I have a 2013 Nismo with 34000 miles. No mods. (That I can tell) The fuel pump quit. What would cause the fuel pump to quit?
Thanks, CD |
Do you run the tank till empty?

I'd start with the fuse (or fusible link), then the relay, then make sure I had power at the pump. The FSM will help you locate stuff.

My top hat broke around 80K miles. I know several that broke under 20K. I don't think 90st (forum member who put damn near 250K miles on his Z) ever had an issue with his.

Agreed the Nissan OEM top hat is made of hard plastic but it is a weak point and more time than not they have a tendency to break/crack. Mine cracked once before and I replaced it with the CJ Motorsports billet top hat. If you replace it another Nissan OEM top hat it will just break/crack again in the future so,definitely install a aftermarket unit. Also this is the best time to change your internal fuel filter as well. This would also be a great time to upgrade your fuel pump if your Z is in need of more fuel. Frequently running on empty is not good for the life of your fuel pump. Nissan highly recommends only using premium top tier gasoline in all the 2009-2019 370Z models (Chevron,Texaco,Shell etc.)
