VQ Engine after 24 bottles of nitrous
So its been a good year now and i feel this is a well deserved post. I should mention there are several other people on here that have done full nitrous install explinations etc... but there always seems to be those few people who condem nitrous with bold statements about “have fun blowing up your engine” etc...
First off I want to go over my set up to clear the air of any false senses of security that could arrise - Nitrous system - Zex wet direct port with Wide Open Throttle Switch - Zex bottle heater - NOS window switch (on - 4100 rpm —- off 7200 rpm) - NX Fule Safety Switch - (shuts down the nitrous if fule pressure drops) - Autometer Pro Comp 2 Nitrous pressure gauge - Autometer Pro Comp 2 A/F Wideband gauge - HKS 2 steps colder plugs - Wide band A/F readings at 12.2 on WOT when firing nitrous I started running the nitrous back in august last year where i managed to get about 4 bottles through the car before putting it in storage for the winter. We got the 370 back out on the road in June and its been nothing but nitrous and fun since then. Yesterday after burning our 24th 10lb bottle i decided to pull the throttle bodies and inspect the plugs for any detonation or over heat. The plugs had less then 3 km of regular driving on them when they were pulled. After review I can saftly say the engine is taking the nitrous with absoultly no issues at all! Plugs on each bank I am currently running a 75 shot but after the review of my plugs i feel its definnitly safe to up it to a 100. There are a lot of people out there who condem nitrous, and i know its got a bad name from people over spraying more then the block or plugs can handle. But essentially from my experience and based on the condition of the plugs after heavy nitrous use. I believe as long as you stay within the HP ratings of your block and maintaine a 12.5 or richer A/F you cant go wrong. Any way, i hope this can help calm some people on the “nitrous is bad” band wagon. This is my 3rd car im running nitrous on and will probably always choose the spray over the boost!

I ran nitrous for years in my Trans-Am, with a Venom system, but filling bottles all the time gets OLD... and expensive. But instant torque always puts a smile on your face.

Interesting! It’s good to know that it’s a safe option for the VQ. I knew these engines were robust.

Congratulations yes anyone with a VQ37HR engine can safely run nitrous as long as you are responsible with it,don’t run nitrous jets that are too large for your engine, and plan on some dyno time to get your A/F ratio correct. You can run 100hp or 125ph jets on your stock VQ37HR with the correct tuning and fuel system. I ran 100ph jets Nitrous Express Kit on my 350Z it can work out fine with the proper knowledge of how to use nitrous. A lot of your engine blow ups occur from user error from people that do not know completely what they are doing. I also ran a NOS Nosszle kit and Nitrous Express kit on two Ford Mustangs before. Changing your spark plugs out regularly and cleaning your throttle bodies is always a great idea.

Thanks for this post man, this should clearup the common misconceptions about Nitrous on our cars. Definitely has me convinced. How much could I expect to get a full setup for? Parts + Labor installed? Also, my car is @ 107k miles, is this a bad time to try it?

Was thinking a 75 shot, I don't know too much about the details of NOS, Gonna do more research but yeah if you had a price range in mind that would be sweet.

The factory fuel pump can handle the nitrous. No mods were needed on the fuel system! Just play and spray!
