OBD2 app vs aftermarket gauges

Has anybody actually compared 'BOOST' and 'AFR' readings between an OBD2 app like 'Torque Pro, DashCommand' and a real boost gauge or wideband gauge?

Please let me know..thnx!

I use dashcomand with a wireless OBD reader specificlly for engine temp and A/F readings. I also run a Autometer Pro Comp 2 Wideband Gauge in my dash as well. (I run nitrous and A/F is very important to me:happydance:)

When i compare the 2 together they are bang on. I specifically use the dash compand with a green screen so it keeps the phone screen green when my A/F readings are in the safe zone, it turns red as soon as i lean out.

When i first tried the OBD wireless set up i was skeptical but after using it for the last year and comparing the data with my actual guages in dash i woudl have to say i may just run a dashcomand set up on any future builds as its far more cost effective and less intrusive on having to modify the car.

I don't think I've heard of anyone getting an accurate boost reading for our cars.. On mine I think it stops at 1psi or something, but I also do not have an upgraded MAP sensor so it would be impossible to get the reading in my case. I have asked others that are tuned via speed density and have proper MAP sensors but haven't heard of anyone getting an accurate boost reading from OBDII.

From my experience as an Instrument Tech, that sounds like the sensor is the wrong range (looks like your sensor maxes out at 1 psi) and/or the ECM hasn't been re-scaled (not sure that it can be re-scaled).

the OEM sensor only reads vacuum IIRC... though you might be right about the rescaling for those who have gone speed density and have upgraded their MAPs to read positive pressure.

Thanks cranberry, yeah I would love to go an OBD2 app route to read AFR so I can minimise the amount of gauges in the car.

As for boost, I have to get a EBC now anyways, so I will have the boost reading that way.

Ok so what is your safe zone AFR? Because when your are cruising or at idle the AFR will be around 14.7 correct? But when u r WOT 14.7 would be way too lean, so how does it know when to flash red/green or not, is it based upon pedal sensor or is it compared to the AFR traget or something like that?

In the app you can change the peramiters to whatever you want it to do. At WOT i am usually 11.9 - 12.2 or at least thats where i am tuned specificly with the nitrous. So as long as at WOT the A/F is in the 11.9 - 12.2 zone the screen stays green. As soon as i come out of WOT it turns red as it typically readys way to lean
