Double clutching will get you around the problem until you can get the car to the dealer. Its a pain in the butt to do but it works.

The dealer was able to reproduce the issue but asked me to monitor the situation to see if it gets worse by next maintenance. I'll probably push for a new transmission next time. It's just an annoyance for the time being but a new car shouldn't do that.
Auston I would say it does it more than 50% of the time unless I shift real slowly. |

I think for our trannies, it "normally happens" and there is a history of this, but is definitely not normal/good.
My 6th gear grinds/crunches if I shift quick. I've found that ever since I switched to Redline Oil, step on the clutch fast&quick, and shift to 6th slowly when it feels like it doesn't want to go in gear.... that it doesn't crunch anymore. |

Yeah problem is that my brain is already conditioned to shift slowly in 6th. Maybe I should just start hitting it hard till it fails. I can reproduce the grind over and over again by skipping 5th and going straight to 6th. I believe this is due to the higher RPMs.

go to the dealership. It isn't normal. I had the same issue with different gears and got a new tranny. I posted the link in here already

later they told me to bring it back if it gets worse. I figure if I bring it back again they will want to replicate it again. Since it only happens about once a day, it's highly unlikely that it will act up again with them driving. So I've been waiting for it to get worse to avoid certain hassle with the dealership |

Don't know if this will help, but has anyone thought about changing out one or more of the motor mounts? I have a Mazdaspeed 3 and a lot of people complained about grinding until they changed to stiffer motor mounts. It made a huge difference for me at least. I imagine that quick shifting jostles the transmission quite a bit, and putting a stiffer anchor to the chassis could help.

Any tips for getting Nissan to do this? My transmission is crunching in 5th gear about once a day for about 3 months now. |

Keep going back.. make an appt.. take it back in. If they make the call to Nissan they will do a full transmission.
You've successfully replicated the problem, it's now escalating, end of story. |
