Bolt on need tune?
Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
Im the original owner of an 09 z and just recently got into modding the car. I currently got a exhaust and intake and looking into getting test pipes. My question is, If i get test pipes, would the car not run well and I would need a tune or would it be okay to wait a couple months for a tune? Thanks for the input. |
The rule of thumb is:
Intake OR exhaust mods - no tune needed. Intake AND exhaust mods - tune needed. As long as you keep the AFRs in line, you should be able to run for a while without a tune. Stay away from WOT until you get the tune. |
In my case, I am running a mess of mods with no tune on my 2010, and never ever got a CEL. That includes 40 plus dragstrip runs and three dyno pulls over the last two years!
Ported upper/lower, Stillen G3, Test pipes, CBE, 3.69 gear in a 7AT, etc... Now, I used good fuel for power pulls, and watched my AFR and ignition timing using dash command iphone app. There was never any issue. The factory ECU compensates very well to changes, it has to in order to serve a diverse market. Your mileage may vary. |

The more mods you put on. The sooner you should get a tune to get the most out of it. And like SG4247 said. The ecu will adjust for the mods. But only to a degree. Mine was run rich when I got my tune done. Vince leaned out the mixture, and the car picked up more power. And I got better fuel mileage too. |
