Grinding Noise from rear

Hi All,

My car started to make this loud grinding noise when i release the clutch from 1st gear. For an example if im parking my car and only use the clutch. I hear a grinding noise from the rear. The noise also occurs in reverse.

However the noise doesnt occur when im cruising. The car shifts through all the gears without hesitation, It shifts like butter.

Is this a common issue with the Z?

I thought it was the throwout bearing but it doesnt whistle based off my research. Its more of a loud metal grinding noise or a metal creaking noise.

I dont have any aftermarket suspension parts. So i highly dought its a loose strut or something

Possible broken diff? I only have 35k miles

So it seems like a common issue like the csc failure. Only solution is tk grease the axles??

I don't think it's as common as CSC failure but it's not rare, either.

Going by my experience with bearings in an industrial setting, a bearing that clunks needs either adjustment or replacement. Greasing alone may be "good enough" in this case.

If you can find a copy of the FSM, it will have adjustment procedures.

Rear axles bearing failures happen more often than not on our cars. Street duty puts a lot of wear on axle bearings.

Does this happen from a stop? Or is it most noticeable when you are changing directions (i.e. R to 1st or vice versa)? Assuming it is the rear axle click, greasing the axles is what Nissan will charge you $160 to do and is just a band-aid for most. Do it right and replace the adjusting cap which is typically the source of the noise (go ahead and grease the axle faces as well). This thread has all the information you need: http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...unk-noise.html.
