Temeramental Cruise Control

My set/resume button works. Sometimes.

Am I alone? I'll turn on the cruise. Dash light illuminates, hit the set button and the cruise doesn't set. Try it again in a few miles and it works fine.

Guessing the switch itself. Not crazy about popping the center of the steering wheel off (airbags, etc)....

Of course warranty is expired for this despite only 24k miles on the car. Don't think that falls under power train.

Check the the switches on the brake and clutch pedals. FSM (link in my sig) will have procedures for checking/setting.

the good news is those switches are suprisingly inexpensive from Nissan.

Especially if you have made any clutch pedal adjustments.

haven't made any adjustments. What am I looking for exactly?

I have noticed something like this very occasionally. But I don't wait a few miles before trying it again. I can usually get it to set within 3-4 button pushes. If not, I turn off cruise control, turn it back on and then try to set it again. I've only had it really frustrate me once that I recall and I just waited a few miles like you do and then it worked.

For the top clutch switch to be pressed when you are not on the clutch pedal. If the top switch isnt pressed, the ECU "thinks" you are pushing on the clutch pedal and will not engage cruise.

Your not alone, it happens to me too. I usually just drive a few more miles and then it works again. Not sure why, could be the clutch switch as mentioned, after a few miles of crappy bumpy highway it shakes itself into the correct position.
