CSC failure?
 

My wife got into her Z over the weekend and the clutch went all the way to the floor. I looked at the clutch reservoir and it was empty. Put some fluid in it and still no pedal and the fluid level did not change.

My question is, with fluid in it the reservoir, shouldn't you get some sort of pedal when you pump on it or if the CSC is gone, will it not build up any pressure? Would it do any good to try and bleed the system? Any info would be very helpful.

If you just put fluid in it, you've got air in the lines. Bleed it completely. Even if bleeding solves it temporarily, you've still got a CSC replacement headed your way. Start deciding what else you want to do while the tranny is on the ground to save on labor costs. Your clutch may very well be toast if the fluid soaked into it.

Does one need to change out the clutch master cylinder also? I have a HD version CSC headed form z Speed. I just hope I can bleed it and have enough to get it to the shop. Also, is pulling this trans very difficult?

It's a very good idea to purchase a RJM HD master, but a new OEM master will suffice. Don't reuse the master. There's nothing funky about dropping the tranny. Expect 6-8 hours of labor if you don't DIY. It'll never be cheaper then right now to do a clutch and flywheel, especially since you may find out that the stock one is dead from the fluid.

I plan on doing it myself, that's why I asked. Any thing one needs to know about changing the CSC itself?

I'd run that by Joe@Zspeed, but I'd imagine all you need is the FSM, time and a case of beer.

If you haven't already, download the FSM (link in my sig). Lots of diagrams, part numbers, tools req'd, etc.

Something to consider. Some elected to replace the CSC, air bleeder valve, clutch master system, the flexible hose and bleed system.

I agree with Chuck's suggestion to change the clutch and flywheel while you're at it.

Yes,there is no way around it the CSC replacement is inevitable on our 370Z’s. +2 Your clutch has more than likely failed as specially if the fluid soaked into it. Definitely save yourself labor and/or time and just replace your clutch and flywheel. There are a lot of different clutch/flywheel to choose from.

Bought my 2016 Nismo brand new. At 5000kms the csc leaked all the oil out and failed. Dealer told me if they pull the trans off and it looked abused they wouldn't cover it. I argued it was a new car and they ended up fixing it. With some burnouts and at the drag races my clutch slips and burns bad. Too back to dealer. They say the took trans off and couldnt see anything wrong with the clutch.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Ordered an HD csc from zspeed along with a new lower hose and master cylinder. Inspected the clutch and looked in very good shape. It wasn't as hard of a job that I had expected. The z is back on the road and most of all the wife is happy to have her car back.
