Clutch help..

Herro,

My clutch is gone on my Z, and I have been doing some reading but still cannot decide on what clutch to go with. Does anyone have some recommendations?

I defiantly know i'm going to get the Zspeed CSC delete kit, and have been looking at the following clutches:

1) Z1 Motorsports unsprung clutch with light weight flywheel.

2) Zspeed South bend clutch but (seems to be a more popular clutch based on the forum).

I mostly do weekend spirited driving with my car with an occasional track day, any help is appreciated.

I did the Z1 clutch/flywheel and I am happy with it... if I did it over again I would probably skip the flywheel though, the chatter is annoying.

How many miles did it last? Make sure you do not decide to boost later. I can't decide yet either z1 or southbend? Southbend owner is very helpful and nice over the phone. Don't forget new master cylinder and the important quiet flywheel. :driving:

Well I recently traded my Z for my new to me used Nismo. Car only has 25k ok it so the previous owner apparently did not know how to drive a manual... and yes new master cylinder lol

And noise don’t really bother me because it’s a weekend warrior lol I literally only get to drive my z like once a month if that.. work always has me busy.

I just bought a 2015 Nismo with 2,300 miles and completely stock, and while I was test-driving it I noticed the chatter from the clutch. In the threads I've gone through, I haven't found mention of this chatter from the OEM system. Is this normal? It only seems noticeable at speeds less than ~15-20mph when depressing the clutch and coming to a stop...although a slight sound can sometimes be heard when shifting 1-2.

The salesperson heard it too, and had their service manager and head mechanic take it for a drive. They reported that this is normal. I do plan on upgrading in the future, but just wanted to see what the experiences of other Z owners have been with the OEM system.

Yep. Completely normal. My ‘16 Nismo does the same. It depends on RPM and how fast you press in the clutch pedal when coming to a stop. These cars require a more progressive clutch disengagement when coming to a stop.

Im running ACT Stage 2 race with light weight flywheel. Definitly noticed a huge diffrence in grab, and the rev up is so significant it required me to re learn shifting the car on the track. Daily driving though on the street is embaressing :(. The chatter from the flywheel is a head turned... most people think my engine is about to blow up, constantly find myself explaining that the sound is normal.

What weight is the flywheel that you get that much noise?

pertty much any single mass flywheel is going to sound embarassing on the street. You just get used to it.

I have the Zspeed Stage 3 with their flywheel & CMAK. Extremely happy with my purchase and experience thus far with it.

The noise from the flywheel you get used to after a while.

Make sure you either get the CMAK or HD slave and change the clutch master at the same time. It's a little extra but it's cheaper than having to drop the transmission twice.

Talk to Joe at Z Speed Performance he will help you out. If you do a mix of street/track driving I highly recommend the South Bend Stage 2 clutch,South Bend Billet Steel Flywheel,CMAK Kit, RJC pedal kit.
