Oil Analysis #2
This was right before my HPDE. I should have a sample (assuming my body shop didnt **** up) of right AFTER the HPDE, also, as soon as I get the car back.
I think this is SOLID proof, that an early oil change around ~1K miles is a good idea :) http://images52.fotki.com/v639/photo...Report2-vi.jpg |
Thanks, man. This confirms my decision to change my oil at 1000-1200 miles!
I'd +1 you but I'm all repped-out for the day :shakes head: |

Guys, have you ever heard of statistical versus practical significance? Even if there was a statistical difference between those values, you'd never be able to show that changing your oil based on those numbers was worth doing every 1000 miles. Don't waste your hard earned money every 1000 miles...there's no evidence that a little extra copper, iron, molybdenum, etc will change your engine's life.

I feel that changing your oil at the FIRST 1K miles should be done. Not waiting 4500 for the very first oil change. For the normal driver, after the first 1K, I don't see why waiting 3-4K every change AFTER the first will be fine. My point was simply that doing the very first one should be done sooner than later. |
I changed my oil at 60 miles :p
|
Yeah I did mine at 150 miles and again at 700.
|
I changed mine at around 1200-1500 for first one... Now I'm glad I did. + rep for you...

I grew up learning that (and I'm REALLY old). The idea wasn't so much that the oil was breaking down or anything but that in the first (let's say) 500 - 1,000 miles is where you will gather the most fine particles of metal "dust", (etc.) as the engine breaks in and the metals smooth themselves into place. Dumping that oil gets rid of foreign minute particles floating around in it. |
Precisely my feelings, Slynky. No matter how "clean" they get a freshly cast block, its still going to be "dirty", to a point. I think an early initial oil change helps greatly in getting a majority of that gunk out :)

Thanks MightyBobo. I knew I was doing the right thing when I had my first oil change at about 1000 miles.
|
Dropped mine at 1255, if I remember correctly.
|
Not sure if Honda still does this but they wanted the first oil change done after 3000 miles, to help break in the engine properly. That's what it said in my 2001 prelude manual. I will most likely do my first z oil change after 3k.
|
Some break-in oils have extra molybdenum to help with piston sealing and they want you to keep it in for at least 3000 miles.
|
I did my first oil change at 3738. I think even if I didn't have a lifetime warranty, I'd still do it around the same mileage. I doubt 2000 miles will make a difference..

Will have to look at the maintenance section in the Owner's Manual for the Z. |
I changed mine a hair under 1k miles. Thanks for the report, Bobo.
