tapping noise at idle
I tried searching, but does anyone remember if there was a TSB for this issue, getting the tapping noise after long trips, but as soon as I turn the engine off and right back on again the noise stops completely and engine goes back to running smoothly.

Anyone?

Oil? What type of oil are you using? I know that most do not want to hear it but Nissan recommends Nissan Ester oil to eliminate engine tapping noise in the Z. Just saying.

Try some Nissan Ester at your next change. Might help; might not.

Excuse the video quality, but this is the tapping I am talking about and what it's doing....

Also wanted to add that I've done a little digging around the G37 forums and have seen quite a few of them suggest servicing the oil galley gaskets as it seems on the earlier vq37's there is an issue with the gaskets that made oil pressure drop low enough to set off this condition. going to be swapping out my water pump this next weekend anyways so i'll try it out and update you guys if that resolves the tapping issue.

Yeah that does not sound good. I can hear the tapping noise on mine but it’s probably 60-70% quieter than that.

I’ve seen a few other videos on youtube floating around that have the exact same noise, but neither the poster of the videos or any of the people responding to the video seem to ever say whether they solved the issue or not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Does the noise go away when you put the car in gear? Sometimes my car makes a similar noise when I get home (I use a carport and frequently drive with windows open, so get a lot of engine noise bounce) but it seems transmission related as it goes away when I engage the transmission. In my case I think it is a matter of the harmonics of a low rpm idle from a warm engine and the characteristics of the transmission/clutch elements.

I’ve challenged the same thing, but in my case it was cracked pulley. So inspect yours, before you pick up heads
Don’t buy/install NST pulley https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?sha...0&share_type=t |

Tapping seems to be related to oil pressure in my case as when i rev the engine there is no tapping, but as soon as it settles back down to idle where oil pressure is lower when things are warmed up it starts tapping. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
You need to install a oil pressure gauge. If you get one. Make sure it reads to 150.psi.
