Z died on me :( Fuel pump?

I've been hearing a faint high pitched whine coming from the passenger side for the past week and just yesterday the car would crank but bog violently and shut down

Default Z died on me :( Fuel pump?

I've been hearing a faint high pitched whine coming from the passenger side for the past week and just yesterday the car would crank but bog violently and shut down upon ignition. My guess is that the fuel pump is done. Not only the noise was coming from that general direction, I do not hear the fuel pump engaging before the engine fires.

Anyone know why/how the fuel pump would fail? I have around 65k on the odometer. In addition, anyone know the estimate on this repair?

If you do not hear it priming when turning on the ignition then that's a dead giveaway. It's probably gonna be around $500-600 from an independent shop. Most pumps are on top of the tank so you have to drop the tank down and pull the old pump out to install the new one.

A whine from the passenger footwell area is probably the ECM. The fuel pump is located behind the seats. See FSM (link in my sig) for location details.

If no fuel pump whine when you try to start, I'd first check the fuse(s) (see Owner's Manual or FSM for location).

Fuel pump should is a reasonably easy to replace. I would pick up an OE replacement and have an indie mechanic fix it for you if the stealership wants blood in exchange... or DIY =)

Changing the 370z pump don't need to drop the tank.
Can be done in about 1 hour by yourself. Did mine with the instruction from CJ Motorsports

Thank you. As much as I would like to work on this myself, I am extremely busy these days and I need to car asap. I'll just bite the bullet and let a shop handle this one for me. But I think I should print and hand them this instruction

IIRC, there is a relay to supply power to the pump. This would be another easy/cheap check before deciding to replace the pump.

I was about to say check the relay first....but changing the fuel pump can be done in an hour maybe 2 for the virgin fuel pump changer

Actually, I might just do this myself. Do you guys recommend Walbro? And is it really necessary to change the pump with 1/8 tank of gas? I have about 2/3 of fuel left in the tank.

If you're willing to travel to OC, I would recommend taking your car to Corner 3 Garage in Laguna Hills. They are very familiar with this problem and are capable of doing an OEM fix or an aftermarket upgrade such as the CJM kit if you are so inclined.

Unless you are going to do some serious upgrades and a custom tune the walbro is overkill and will require more modifications to the fuel pump assembly just to get your fuel pressure down to normal at idle. I am TT and run the walbro and it flows enough to make almost double the factory horsepower.

I think you're better off with an OEM or OEM equivalent pump. It's a pretty simple DIY though, so I say go for it! =)

Hmmm I placed an order for Walbro this morning. Should I cancel the order? How bad is installing Walbro on a N/A engine? I bought this because it's affordable, easy to install, and had good rating.

If you can cancel I probably would... Doesn't really make sense unless you're planning more upgrades to make any use of it. But if not, you can make it work.. just a little more work. I assume it's the 255lph?
Check out the cj Motorsports site there are some guides... You can also post on his threads here (user phunk) he is the resident fuel system guru for the community and is very helpful.
