Default Shift Light

I didn't know where to put this, sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm thinking about buying a shift light for my Z. Similar to the ones that come on the big Tacs, but less tacky and just the light. How would that be wired up? Could it just be ran off the RPM signal wire?

I've never understood the reason for shift lights? Do you watch it and do exactly as it commands? "Shift now you useless human driver" haha

Just get used to the car and you'll know exactly when to shift by experience, feel, sound and definitley without having to look at the dash.

They are helpful. I had one with my Mustang... put it up on the A-pillar so it was in my line of sight... great for the drag strip and track alike.

I used a Raptor Performance (Shift Lights by Raptor Performance) light. Black housing with red LEDs. Black blends in with the interior and the red LEDs didn't scatter light all over at night.

I thought about buying one for the Z but there is no need with the factory light.

I think I have my shift light turned on, but I still don't really know where it is yet, sadly.

I shift by feeling/sound, so I don't look at the gauge cluster much.

I understand your point for cars (like my old Ford Taurus) that told you when to upshift based on engine load, throttle position, etc... those are annoying babysitters.

However, the Z shift light is a proper shift light, in that it only comes on to let you know when you are nearing redline. The flashing light allows you to rev to redline every time on the track without having to look down at the tach.

Since most race cars have essentially the same feature, or even a whole set of lights that light up as you approach redline, I don't think Nissan is making presumptions about anyone's lack of driving chops.

I bumped mine down about 200 rpm to start flashing at 6800 and go solid at 7300. Seems good and keeps me from over-revving. Hitting the rev limiter makes me .

The factory shift light looks completely inadequate for drag racing. It is too small and it comes on in stages. A drag racing shift light need to come on all at once and be big and bright. There really is no need for a shift light when driving on the street.

The factory shift shift light is completely inadequate for drag racing. The factory didn't manufacture a drag car.
