Thanks everyone for the suggestions! By trying the tool again, it seemed like it didn't want to go in smoothly so i redid everything and i think it slid in

By trying the tool again, it seemed like it didn't want to go in smoothly so i redid everything and i think it slid in now! There's still about a finger gap but i believe i can just use the bolts to bring them together now? Ran out of time today so will start working on it again tomorrow morning hopefully!
