Damn, that sucks
|
I'm currently really tight on money and I had a thought the other day.
I can sell my current turbo setup to buy an engine and help with finances and the making of more turbo kits to sell. Would there be any interest if i were to part out the turbo kit? How much would you guys think it can go for? Turbos are undamaged, but can be always sent for a quick rebuild for under $300. I can include everything required to install the turbo kit including injectors, a new 340 pump, intercooler, intercooler piping, oil cooler (never hooked to the engine so it's not contaminated) all oil/coolant lines and downpipe that mounts to the stock exhaust/ y pipe/ any aftermarket exhaust. Including inlets, turbos already clocked to work perfectly. Might be missing a few things but this will include everything i currently have minus my return fuel system and 1050CC injectors. Let me know what you guys think! |

Bummer, although it just proves you were right about your bearings. I see your https://www.gofundme.com/help-me-fin...gtr-conversion is up to a whopping $80 bucks! I think if this has any chance of growing legs you'll have to get your "kit" out there. Good luck man, you have talent and drive which is a rare combo.
DONATE to the cause people! |

Big thank's to Husam. I couldn't swing the full kit at the moment but he's sorting out a set of the adapters & rack spacers.
|
Thank you sirnixalot and everybody else who contacted me this week. Things are going better than I expected thankfully and hopeful to have my car back together before spring.
I somehow got 4 orders for the adapters this week which is really exciting. I finally have the website up and running (albeit in beta stage) for anybody looking to join the group buy. 370Z GTR Turbo Conversion For any questions, just PM me. Thanks! |
Good to see things are moving forward!
You should post a new thread in the forced induction section, that should help with your lift off...:driving: |

Small update: My friend's engine that was in my garage with a spun bearing turned out to be really bad. Both heads have noticeable cam lobe wear and every single bearing I've opened is damaged (although the crank doesn't look horrible) I've also sold my complete TT kit including everything to ihiryu. Will be shipping it as soon as I get the engine out and hopefully we will see his review shortly after :) I'm contemplating just buying a used engine from eBay but not sure if the sellers are trustworthy. Does anybody have other sources to buy engines? |

Check craigslist? There are a few of them for cheap in my area... might be similar for you too!
Also a wreck yard - and don't forget to include G37's in your search (seems like a G engine is cheaper than a Z engine, even though they are the same). |
Thank you for reminding me to check junkyards, especially for a G37 since I totally forgot. (Thought they knew that they are compatible)
I found a very close yard with a '13 AWD engine, just trying to figure out if it's compatible after I switch out the upper oil pan. The engines almost out. Only thing left is to get the engine harness out of the car (just after I fished all my gauge wires through ) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2053bbcd11.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Good news! I've pretty much bought a '13 AWD G37 motor from a nearby junkyard.
It is getting delivered tomorrow for $900 including tax and deliver fee :) I'm hoping to fire her up by the weekend and make sure that everything is perfect on this engine. They list it as having 22k miles and I'm hoping that it maintained well |
good luck!

Nice! Round 2!

Engine out and new one almost ready to be put back. I had an idea the other day and wanted the opinion of you guys.
Trade my car for a g37x and redo the turbo kit on that? I haven’t seen anybody document an AWD turbo kit so thought it might be worthwhile? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...35cf4bb386.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7e3ff04688.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You are going to be the new Sasha =) I remember in my 350z days he was documenting the construction of his midmount ST setup and everyone started asking if he could reproduce it.... hence BP was born.
You might go a similar route to him, and ask someone to volunteer their car for development in exchange for a deal on parts/kit. Would hate for the Z community to "lose" you =) |
I have a G37, so I'm biased. But that said, there seems to be a MUCH larger number of poeple in the Z world who are interested in boosting their motors versus the G world. And it seems like anyone from the G world who IS interested in boosting their motor, knows to come over here to the Z community. So I'd say that if you're looking for a commercial splash, do it with a Z, and take the G customers as they come. Just my $.02.

Bro lets finish the Z firts!
I was suggesting to Husam to take production to RJ Manufacturing Any one els think its a good idea? |
BTW dont know if i posted it here is gtr intercoolers on a Z mounted on a bash bar. Fits very well!

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it.
Small update for everyone. I sold the whole kit and hoping it will be installed in a few weeks to have another try on a good dyno tune on a healthy engine. My new used engine is still sitting, waiting for the upper oil pan to be replaced then either part out the car or find another pair of turbos. My financials don't look too good at the moment and honestly the car payment hurts when the car isn't moving. I'll be selling a few unnecessary parts to try and have it boosted again so be on the lookout for that I'm selling my 19 row oil cooler and Z1 urethane motor mounts at the moments, a few more parts later on. If anybody finds a pair of GT-R Turbos for cheap, let me know! A few pics of the engine https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...02883dc44f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d93bd72979.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1fde1e869a.jpg Looks crazy doesn't it. GT-R turbos on the VQ37

Yep, there's 2 more holes on the underside of the pan Pictures of the used engine I got. I'm going to powdercoat the timing cover since I'm there already plus polish a few things. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...331c40d98f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1d0f53925f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...086bbaead2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d09b9e139c.jpg Any other recommendations? WOW, I'm from sunny AZ I guess I'm pretty spoiled here. Not use to seeing all the corrosion on the aluminum. No snow so no salt and sand to combat it and ruin the finish.

Yeah it's very unfortunate. My blown engine looks brand new in comparison :( I might polish it a little before I put it back in but I haven't been a person who cares about aesthetic so far Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
All they would have to do is spray the motor with a clear coat after they built the it. :shakes head:

GT-R turbos on the VQ37
Small update before the New Year
I was lucky enough to find a pair of turbos with only 5k miles for just under $800 along with all the oil/coolant lines and heatshields. Also received my adapters from the shop in a reasonable timeframe this time (old set sold with the turbos and intercooler) Going to try and figure out if a 2.5" inlet for the turbo is possible (maybe increase top end?) and also figure out an easier way to route the oil return lines. (Hard lines hopefully) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2ffd956178.jpg I think I might see some of you guys this Zdays! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Keep it up! |

i was thinking to use these when the time comes. Any chance in hell that 3" will fit? |
Quote:
Unfortunately not. I have ordered that type but a 2" one as that's what the inlet at the turbo is (52mm) I will update you as soon as I received them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I just received those inlet flanges and they fit perfectly! I'm thinking of just using silicone couplers from that point and then expanding to 2.5" near the filter. Here's a couple nice pictures for you guys since a few people complained about my bad pictures  https://s14.postimg.org/9o8skzlh9/DSC_0029.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/xf863413x/DSC_0058.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/xrzk99w8d/DSC_0059.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/jljte20st/DSC_0061.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/64muv5vm5/DSC_0063.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/j8sf7vxyl/DSC_0064.jpg |
Order a set of 2.5" inlets (compared to 2" stock) so hopefully this will make the turbo a little more efficient. I'm hoping to join a tuning group(Seb) in IL around April but my goal is to have the car running mid March with everything functional (can't figure out the e85 flex fuel yet)
