Which injectors did you go with? and which pump are you running?

I'm running the aeromotive 340 with Nostrum Energy 1000cc injectors supplied by my tuner.

Currently it's running weird with these injectors after the retune but my duty cycle is just around 60 now so hopefully we can figure it out without a return system.

GT-R turbos on the VQ37

Finally some free time today. I think I figured out why bank 1 was richer/maf voltage lower.

It looks like this clamp wasn't tight enough since I could pull move it with some force. Tightened it to as much as I could without breaking it

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...138dc4a24d.jpg

Also some more pictures since I don't think I've posted these before

Steering rack shims/ spacers

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b66e08e2ea.jpg

Steering shaft clearance is about a finger width now. Shouldn't be an issue at all :)

Passenger side. Excuse the messy downpipe haha

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...10fc9a39ec.jpg

Tidying things up and looks like I have a small pinhole in the wastegate line! Maybe that's why it goes up to 12 psi. I hope so atleast

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fdc5665f61.jpg

Also, thanks for the idea whoever posted it here. I tested the wastegates and they open at the same time but the guage isn't very accurate I think since it takes 20 psi to open it all the way. It starts opening around 4-5 psi but the guage is off since it's a cheap $10 pump

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d5f2222655.jpg

Edit: just did a pull after making sure there's no boost leaks and it's still at 12 psi and even 13 :/

Good news is my new injectors are working perfectly WOT (60% duty cycle now)but a little weird while idle which is understandable.

Notice the boost at 3000rpm

Great thread! I sub'd right away and am so glad to see your car up and running. I
ve been researching Fuel injectors a lot lately for my Powerstroke. One thing I came across was that rebuilt injectors were a having a tough time idling, whereas brand new ones never seems to have that problem. Are yours Rebuilt? I read multiple threads of guys having to switch out individual injectors until they were "balanced" to get their trucks to idle right. Just something to consider. Rock on!

Interesting... Never heard that myself. Generally when you send a whole set of injectors in for service they will balance the flow between them.

The car actually didn't run right with these injectors as they were originally engineereed for the 350z. The replacements are coming in either Saturday or Monday (1050cc)!

I'm hoping I will be able to run e85 with them for safety. Car runs perfect otherwise

You should not have any problem with those sized injectors. More importantly is what size your is your fuel pump and is e85 compatible?

husam2012 08-04-2017 02:33 PM

Yeah I have the aeromotive 340 which is e85 compatible.
Just hoping that running 10-12 psi of boost won't throw my fuel pressure too low.

Should be able to make up the difference with those 1050cc's... Mine creeps close to 11psi.

That's perfect! Do you have the ecutek map graph? Shows how fast it spools etc

I do not unfortunately... I'm on a MAF tune so no pressure reference to log... I could put my GoPro on the gauge or something lol

It spools to the full 8.5 psi pretty fast.. probably around 3-3.5k.. could be a good deal quicker but I don't run a boost controller... I get the creep at full throttle at the top of 4/5/6th gear... (Not that I have ever seen the top of 6th)

Sounds good! I wonder if mine will creep even more in higher gears. It's currently topping at 12 to 13 psi at redline. 8 psi from 2500 and 12 from 3500~

If those injectors don't hold up to e85. I have brand news id e85 injectors laying around.

I got the same exact ones you're selling! Thanks for the offer though

So wait are you throwing in a new VQ or repairing the one you have now ?

wideglideleon 08-07-2017 02:39 PM

Doesn't look like his car this one has a stillen SC with an air to air upgrade if I'm not mistaken. Look at the 1st pic you can see the bracket and SC and looks like an air cleaner directly on the SC and the extra pulley for less belt slip installed.

husam2012 08-07-2017 09:58 PM

Correct, this is my friends Stillen SC'd '14 NISMO. We took the drive train out over the weekend to swap in a used engine instead.

Small update. These new injectors rock! They car runs as smooth as stock and it pulls without hesitation.

Dyno tune is Thursday hopefully unless the shop can't squeeze me on the schedule :) Can't wait

GT-R turbos on the VQ37

Sorry for the lack of posts, have been really busy with life this past few weeks. I'm still waiting for the dyno tune but the car is running perfect at the moment and have put 500 miles on it already.

Almost done putting the new engine back into my friends Nismo. Just waiting for motor and trans mounts from Z1.

Also will be parting out this '14 nismo if you guys need any parts!

It seems like my luck with this car will never end :(

My dyno was an hour ago and they lifted it to check everything and there was a coolant leak when looking from under the engine. I went back home and it looks like its the crossover gasket.

Anybody know why this could happen? It's really random since I never touched the crossover pipe

GT-R turbos on the VQ37

Finally fixed everything on this lucky car and the dyno went as planned :)

Unfortunately the timing was very limited by the octane so I will retune with e85 as soon as I can afford the flex fuel kit (need to also upgrage to a return fuel system) $$$

Good news for people who aren't running one though. Running 93 octane, my fuel pressure with a 340 pump was still 48-52 at redline.

Follow my Instagram for the dyno video. So far it's running awesome but I can't wait to get retuned on e85 as timing is currently 12 degrees at redline.

Remind me pls, what was the tune on the ECM?

Or was some tuning done at this dyno session?

The tune was done on the dyno. First pull using the safe street tune I originally got was 390 whp. The tuner then proceeded to make the afr's safer and then increased timing to approx 12 degrees at redline. Anything higher and it was knocking near redline.
He recommended e85 but unfortunately my budget doesn't allow it at the moment.

Keep in mind that this is the first Z that he has tuned. He usually tunes GTR's.

Jayhovah 08-26-2017 09:37 PM

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice numbers!!! Hell of a job.

Elmo370z 08-26-2017 10:55 PM

Was the car pulling timing at 6,500?

I thought you would get around 475 to 500hp out of it on 93 oct. Still not bad.

The tuner said there's around 30-40 hp more possible with some risk and another hour of dyno time but I decided against it. Just going to enjoy driving it finally haha

husam2012 08-31-2017 11:33 AM

Well, I finally thought it out and decided to buy the CJM S1.E Fuel System. Will be installing it this weekend and tuning for Flex fuel shortly after.

https://nebula.wsimg.com/obj/NkJCQ0N...VkMzU6Ojo6OjA=

Given all the bad luck i've had so far this year, i decided to play it safe and run E85 all the time just for safety.

I had my fuel pressure gauge recorded using a camera while i was on the dyno and it was as low as 42-45 PSI at redline. I decided to play it safe and to not run it much longer like that. (Gauge shows pressure at the rail but not actual pressure at the fuel injectors)

So for anyone planning to run turbos, I wouldn't recommend the OEM returnless system simply because 42 PSI - Boost PSI = actual pressure at the injectors.

In my case, it was very low 30's which probably contributed to the low power levels achieved.

husam2012 09-07-2017 12:32 PM

About to install my flex fuel sensor along with the whole fuel system. It's going to be a tight fit around the turbos but I believe there's just enough space to do this. Wish me luck!

sirnixalot 09-07-2017 08:43 PM

Sorry if it was mentioned but what boost were you running while on the dyno?

husam2012 10-02-2017 10:31 PM

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Got a new job at a performance shop to make a little more money for school/bills and just started the semester being fulltime.

My bad luck finally caught up to me.

The car still runs perfect and with the flex fuel It's probably making over 500 WHP at 12 PSI at this second. But, it's probably going to spin a bearing soon.

Basically, I haven't put more than a couple hundred miles since the dyno tune but that oil pressure issue that happened a while back was still haunting me.

I finally got it up on a lift to drop the pan and cut open the filter. I found what i was expecting all along :( A few small metal flakes at the bottom of the pan and inside the oil filter. I'm really sad that this happened and had hoped to enjoy it for at least a little longer.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point since i have literally no money to buy anything else for it, and not a lot of time between school and work. I was just thinking of trading it into a stealership and to cut my loses at this point.

It's been a joy to drive with this much power, and maybe someday I'll build another one just like it!

Be on the lookout for a GT-R turbo partout in the upcoming months unless something/ someone changes my mind.

Thanks everyone for your help along this journey, it has been definitely a good learning experience.

To be honest, I don't know a lot about engine internals and reading the fragment tea leaves in oil... is it possible that the motor will live a long life even after that episode?

Would a fresh oil change and then oil analysis at the next interval offer any clues as to the health of the motor? Maybe even an analysis of the oil you just drained?

If you are right about it, I am heartbroken for you and would echo the other reply of finding a used VHR to swap in if you can afford it... clearly you can handle the labor yourself. =)

I sent you a PM.
