6MT Shift Gate Feels Different After CSC Replacement
 

I had the CSC and Clutch Master Cylinders replaced a couple of weeks ago after the well known CSC failure. The dealer had to drop the transmission to get to the CSC. I swear that the 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th gear change feels different, like I have to search for the correct spot for the lever to move to the next position. I bought the car new in 2009 so my muscle memory knows when something seems different. Previously the 4th to 5th gear changes were very smooth and the lever seemed to move through the gate without hesitation and the 5th to 6th shifts were just straight back with gentle pressure to the right. Am I imagining things or is something out of adjustment after they dropped the transmission ? I also think it is not as smooth, I had Redline oil in the transmission and they refilled with their bulk gear oil.

I just dropped my trans myself and has this issue after. I read through the fsm because i knew changing the trans fluid couldn't cause this. There is a procedure when reassembling the shifter. When placing the guide plate, your supposed to put it into 6th, tighten one bolt, then put it into 5th and tighten the other bolts.

So basically your plate isn't in the right spot and it's letting your shifter go over too far then you have to pull it back a little to find the right spot.

is this necessary when you replace the csc and/or clutch?

Yeah any time you take the shifter apart, when you put it back together, you gotta follow this

The same thing kinda happened to me. Just had my csc and master replaced. Now it takes much more effort to select a gear. And there's a slight spongyness too it. I'll live with it for now.

Even mechanics that come highly recommended can have issues.

I'd say that's air in the line actually.
Spongy = air compressing
More effort to get into gear because the clutch isn't fully disengaging.
Probably should get it fixed sooner rather then later
