Anyone pieced together their own oil filter relocation kit?

Only kit I can find is the Greddy kit and it seems a little pricey. Anyone piece something like this together?

Well I've done a little research and the Greddy kit is actually pretty reasonable! I'll still piece together my own I think.

What hose size does your typical oil cooler kit use?

Looks like I may as well go with -10 fittings... and I was able to figure out all the pieces with a few hours of research. I'll post a parts guide up when I complete the project.

Does anyone know if there is any downside to locating the filter higher up in the engine compartment? I'd imagine it would be additional strain on the pump, but I have no idea how much difference that would really make.

You could use a moroso oil filter relocation adapter, longs us find the right threaded bolt for the block. l im pretty sure boosted performance v1 kits came with this style oil relocation adapter. you could pair it with any oil filter adapter like the Greddy kit u mentioned.

Thanks! I've been able to figure all of these pieces out... and I also got some info from BP.

Now I just need to figure out if there is any downside to relocating the filter higher up. There is pretty much no room underneath with my Gamma oil pan.

Let me know how this works out. My filter is a bit of a tight tolerance pain I. The *** to get to with the Stillen thermostatic adapter on there. It doesn't help that I used a larger filter too though I suppose. Would be interested in something like this.

I don't have an answer to ideal placement however. In my case I'll have more room in that front passenger side so would likely work for me.

Based on that Moroso adapter you could probably put it anywhere along the path to the oil cooler? Just thinking out loud here.

No oil cooler for me... Gamma oil pan (which is why servicing the filter is kind of a pain). From some light googling, looks like there is no real harm in locating the filter higher in the compartment. I have plenty of space where the OEM air boxes used to go... So I am going to put it up there if I can figure out a bracket. Will order some parts tonight and take pics along the way this holiday when I do the mod.

Cool, I didn't know you weren't running a cooler at all.

At least your holiday mods this year will be less intense than last

Got an 'out for delivery' on the frozenboost intercooler so am working from home today so I don't miss it.

Yup... Even in the FL summer my oil temps stay pretty well in check with the Gamma pan... It's cheap too, has all the ports you need, and increases the capacity to almost 2 gallons.... I am kind of surprised it isn't a much more popular mod around here. Getting to the oil filter is a royal pain the in *** though... might be easier if you don't have a turbo drain hose running through the same area.

You and me both! Intercooler just came 5 mins ago!

The SC is self-oiling so I don't need the ports otherwise I'd be ordering a pan too. I'll take a look while I'm under there and see what can be done about relating my filter. Thanks for the idea

I've got it torn down now and put it back together as parts roll in this week - will start a thread when there is more than a partially disassembled engine to show.

Well... I just ordered $400 worth of hoses, fittings, and adapters from Summit Racing. Going to figure out the mounting, use what I need, and then return the excess. The final total could be as low as $100 but probably more like $130-$150 depending on which parts I end up using.

Well, I got all my pieces in... and have been brainstorming where to locate the filter.
So far the only viable place is where the drivers side airbox used to be, but that's a pretty long hose run and changing the filter would still be a little tight.

I am going to pull the bumper and see if maybe I can do something where the washer bottle used to be.. Locating the filter behind the bumper seems like a stupid idea in the name of making service simpler, but with my oil capacity I only need to change my oil at most twice a year (I only put 10k miles or so on each year).

Well, I've scrapped the idea of putting it behind the bumper.. it occurred to me I don't want to expose the filter to minor fender benders.

After some additional brainstorming, I came up with another location... but then realized what really is in my way when trying to get to the filter is the water lines going to the '12+ OEM oil cooler sandwich plate. I am considering aborting the relocation in favor of deleting the OEM oil cooler to see if that improves things. Plus, it's free! =)
